'17 AL QB Bubba Thompson

😂😂😂 if you want to be impressed, there's a few short clips on YouTube of bubba. A Hail Mary TD, a 75 yard game winning td pass late in a game, a 71 yard run, a 25 yard run or so. He's very fast and has a huge arm. I know that doesn't always translate to being a good QB in college, but from all I've seen and heard he's my main want at QB.

He has "many more skills"

We aren't getting Akers. If you want the Miss St kid I would say it's based solely on the fact that you think he's the better QB.

I like Bubba better than any realistic QB left on our bird because his athleticism and he runs a very similar offense to ours and seems to have a lot of tools passing wise

Granted, I don't know much about the other kid

He may not, but the coaches must not have got message, because they visited him yesterday. (or at least someone posted yesterday article said coaches visited him)

Said he loves Gillespie

Callahan reporting on twitter that Thompson is visiting us again. Not sure when - it is a VIP article

You can hold hope if you want, I will not

What's his 60... Oh and Tony, and star gazers, he's not rated high because he was all baseball until recently

He is OV'ing in January. Hubbs and Fortenberry made it sound like we are having a hard time committing to Thompson being the guy because of the draft. They seem to think we are after Hendon Hooker. They watched him Friday and liked what they saw.

Tony is a gazer. Period. End of discussion. He bases all of his evaluations on the 24/7 Composite.

the three-star senior quarterback from mcgill-toolen catholic high school in mobile, ala., told 247sports’ keith niebuhr on monday that tennessee and ole miss are the two teams recruiting him hardest, and he’s “supposed to be” taking an official visit to tennessee, most likely in january.

“(i like) just the atmosphere, and also the coaches and definitely the facilities,” thompson said of the vols. “they’re going to let me play two sports,” thompson told niebuhr. “i’m going to try my hardest if i get the opportunity to do that, so i think i'm going to try to do that.

“me and (debord) communicate a lot. They came to school tuesday, and he talked to me.”

with his attention focused on playing both football and baseball in college, he said the sport that’s most important to him is “whichever one gives me the best shot at the next level.”

I'm all for taking him if he will play football. Would be awful if he signed in January and decided to enter the MLB draft tho

Tough decison for both sides. I don't blame Bubba for not giving an answer one way or the other because he is a kid that doesn't know which sport is best for him yet and I don't blame staff for being hesitant because this would be eerily similar to when Kelly chose MLB and we had no QB that class which began the bad run of QB depth until Butch fixed it. You have to have someone on roster at QB from this class because of the likilhood that you lose one QB incurrent team

“His instincts are off the charts. When he was a sophomore and just learning our offense, what we noticed about him then, he was best when things broke down, his accuracy went up. He could feel when guys come open.”

Combine those instincts and athleticism (ran a 4.46 40-yard dash during the summer) with knowledge of the offense and Thompson was a different player. Ross couldn’t wait to send the senior film out to college programs.

“We’ve been doing this awhile, and we knew once this would get out there things were going to heat up for him and it did quick,” Ross said. “Sure enough the next day, Texas Tech called and Tennessee called within 24 hours.”
Ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 26 pro-style passer, he took a visit to Tennessee in November and reopened the recruiting process a few days later.

“It’s an SEC school, all the kids down here, they all wish they can play at an SEC school in college,” Thompson said.

Tennessee has gotten a bit of a head start with Thompson.

“They treat me like family,” he said. “The offense is kind of what we run, so I think I can fit right in.”

After the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game Thompson will give the Rebels a better look.

“I’m trying to get up there so I can see more,” he said.

Open to anything else that comes his way, Thompson is enjoying the ride of his new path.

Out of all the '17 QB names that have been discussed the last few weeks does anyone know who we prefer or who we have the best shot with? Bubba Thompson, Keytaon Thompson, and Hooker. I thought there was a couple others also, but maybe they were '18 guys.

Watched him get dominated by Hoover in state finals. Was not impressed at all
Hoovers line made M-T's line their beaches. Hoovers defense is very talented. That's like saying we don't want one of our GA commits because they lost to one of the best teams in GA late in the playoffs lmao. Idiotic

Good insight into Bubba and his work ethic. Sounds like a smart kid with wheels. If he can play center field, I suspect the arm is good enough as well. After reading this, I won't be shocked if he ends up in our recruiting class.

Rivals article covering Bama/Miss all star game...

Recruiting roundup: Tennessee quarterback target Bubba Thompson said the Vols are still a serious contender for his services, but he reiterated that he plans on playing both football and baseball in college. He also said he that even though he plans to sign in February, he will wait through the MLB draft to see if and when he is selected and then discuss his future options with his parents.

On the field: Wide receiver commit Jordan Murphy made one of the day’s most memorable catches and showed impressive consistency catching the ball in traffic … Thompson had a tough day and struggled with accuracy. Thompson is a quality athlete, but has a lot of work to do if he’s going to be a quarterback at the next level … Vols linebacker commit Will Ignont worked a little at defensive end during one-on-ones and had his share of success. He was also a disruptive force at times during team drills, especially coming off the edge against the zone-read.

I think UT should pass here. I know he's a great athlete, but he's a big time development project at QB, and we currently don't even have a QB coach. Even if we get one, there is too much risk that he will take the MLB money and run (I wouldn't blame him).

Push for Hendon hooker. And work our butts off to get a stud '18 QB
