Dude moves well for his size...

How great would it be to have Carlin Fils-Aime running behind Chuck Filiaga?

“Just coming off the island, all of this new to me. This is all new to me and my family. So, we are learning along the way,” Filiaga explained. “So, coming to Tennessee we didn’t have any expectations to what it would be like. But, what we saw was a beautiful campus and it was a very nice atmosphere. It was friendly.”

Butch Jones and his staff are hoping that changes and it seems their first impressions on Filiaga were impressive despite not feeling well during his visit.

“I got a great feel when I was at Tennessee. It was actually a bad day for me because I was sick. I was kind of out of it and I felt bad because all the coaches were really fired up that I was there,” Filiaga said. “I was really excited there too and I was looking forward to the trip. I was glad my mom made the effort to take me out there to Tennessee to see what they have because I was begging her.”

Why would Filiaga want to visit the Vols in the first place? Credit graduate assistant Derek Day, who has helped the Vols secure visits from several West Coasts standouts.

“I just kept hearing from coach Day how awesome Tennessee was and about the atmosphere there with the fans and the student body,” Filiaga said. “Hearing from his words about Tennessee and Rocky Top, I wanted to see it for myself. Also, my mom talked to coach Day a bit and my mom loved him and she was interested in visiting Tennessee, too.”

Filiaga looks pretty good. I'm hard pressed to understand how this kid is a four star prospect, and Obinna Eze is a three. Comparing their film; Eze looks like he has a ton of upside. Take Filiaga? Sure if there's room in the class. But let's get Trey Smith and Obinna Eze committed first, if we can do so.

Filiaga is a take all day. Eze is rated a 4 star by Rivals. Remember Eze has only been playing for like a year so the other services may be a little slow on him.

Thanks for the heads up on Eze's fourth star. And yes, he's only been playing football for a short time. And to be as good as he is already indicates an upside a mile high. I'd like to have all three: Smith, Filiaga, and Eze if the class will hold them.

High upside but Eze has a long way to go.

Next week, Mahoney will be in California to check on Jalen McKenzie as well as four-star offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga as the Vols continue to try and make a move there.

"Chuck Filiaga said he still talks to Tennessee and he hopes to make it up later in the summer. But, right now he's only scheduled to see TCU and Ole Miss. But, they are still in the mix."

As we mentioned, Trey Smith is the priority along the offensive line but that doesn't mean the Vols aren't trying with others. Chuck Filaga remains a priority and the Vols are trying with a few West Coast players, Austin Jackson and Aaron Banks, who received an offer this week.

Would like to see him come in for an OV. We've been recruiting him for a while and he has visited with his family. Think he's good enough that if he wanted to join the class the coaches would make room.

Also, despite fierce competition, there’s belief the Vols very much remain in contention for 247Sports four-star standout offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga, of Aledo, Texas. Folks close to that situation are adamant that Filiaga is intrigued by Tennessee for multiple reasons, from athletics to academics to early playing time.

Elsewhere on the offensive line, Tennessee remains involved with Aaron Banks out of California and he's tentatively scheduled to be on campus in November, as well as Chuck Filiaga and Saahdiq Charles out of Mississippi.

So, out of Calbert, Smith, Banks, Filiaga, and Charles which 3 do you take. Smith would be a given but I would take Filiaga and Charles I think.

I can't imagine they'd pass on any of those last 4 if they wanted in. I just have a hard time seeing the two from Cali being realistic. Banks is a true high end OT which is incredibly hard to find anywhere. And Charles is a road grader. He's about as impressive an interior OL as I've seen in this class.

For the OL class I would like to have Locklear(already have), Trey Smith, Tederrall Slaton, T.J. Moore, & either Aaron Banks or Thayer Munford or both of these. If we got them both that would give us 6 OL & I don't know if we take more than 5.

6 will be the absolute most we take for sure but 5 is more likely unless we can't get any of these 4* & 5* recruits left now. I would also settle for Chuck Filiaga, K'Rojhn Calbert, & Saahdiq Charles as well.

Would like to see us grab Smith, TJ Moore, Charles, Calbert and Locklear. Sounds like Locklear really loves UT, has 21 offers so he must be worth something. Calbert sounds like he has lots of upside and would show some love to the instate guys. Then getting two 4 star guards (thin at that position) and Smith (obvious reasons). I'd be a happy boy.

That's a very nice lists for OL. Very close to who I listed in my previous post above. I think we do get at least 5 of them. Some say only 4.

4 isn't enough when you consider the possibility of injuries. I would even be happy with 6 of them but that's not a common occurrence in classes.

It's usually 5 OL per class but I have seen some schools take as many as 6-7 before but no less than 4. Thanks!
