'17 LA CB Cheyenne Labruzza (UT signeee)

I took as Orgeron didn't want him taking classes that might interfere with his focus on footbaw. We know according to Josh Dobbs himself, that his strenuous major may have cost us the SC game...Do we want this? It is a interesting quandary. I like having a team full of young men I can pull for, but I don't want to lose to SC either..what do you guys think? It is a tough question.

One off game with Dobbs. No problem. There's a situation where the rest of the team should have stepped up. I'm not laying that loss at his feet.

They're still student athletes. If he wants to be sure he gets out of school the most he can, more power to him. It's a tough row to hoe for sure but a DB also doesn't need to game plan at quite at the level the QB does. I just don't think there needs to be a consideration about divided focus.

If you have a son who you want to be successful, it is not a tough question at all. QB's have a tough game from time to time regardless of the reason. Team has to find a way to pull it thru. Not all majors are as tough as Dobbs was. Many factors cost is that game and Dobbs was just one of them.

Wrote this and then read V DOC post. So pretty much agree.

I think it was being lazy. Ed just figured he could walk in with that LSU offer and get the kid. Don't think he did his homework on the kid. And it bit him in the ass. I do think the kid and the family were insulted by his approach.

Not tough at all to me as I'll take a quality recruit with a high GPA who wants to challenge himself academically in college over a similarly talented recruit who's academically challenged. I'd much rather have the athletes studying during the evenings vs roaming the strip. Many folks find that they do better with less free time as they don't put things off.

Dobbs wanted to stretch his studies over 5 years but the RS didn't happen. With a RS, Dobbs could have taken the minimum allowed course load during the fall semester and taken his less demanding classes where the schedule would allow (some courses are not offered both fall and spring semesters). I don't think it would have been an issue with a RS. IMO, TIFWIW, AARP

Orgeron is a classless douche. I have not liked him since he pulled that crap when he was here last time. I hope we blister LSU this fall.

It's why they are called student athletes. They get their education paid in full to come and play a sport. Seems like a win-win for the athlete to me. If you are smart, why not take full advantage of it, and get your degree in something that will pay huge dividends in the future? Shame on a coach to try to persuade a player to not major in something difficult, although the player might be able to handle the major and football simultaneously.

Lol...Orgeron doing Orgeron things. Nice to see a kid spurn the in-state school elsewhere, because they slow-played him. Seems like that only happens to us.

really enjoy reading nuggets like this. High quality student athlete choosing and then staying with the VOLS!

GO VOLS!!!

Nugget is a great word. It is so versatile. It can mean something good as in the post above.

You can use it to express frustration:
"Well that little nugget might have been useful Gary!"

Or you can use it when you are pissed off:
"Why don't you just shove it up your hole you little ****nugget!"

Sorry. I digress.

You can also eat it.

If we need to limit our kids academically to achieve our goals...get new goals.

Not for me. I want the young men to achieve their bigger picture goals. I want them all to major in whatever they want to do for the rest of their lives. Only 5% play NFL for any amount of time.

It sucks to lose to USCjr. I was not a happy camper after that game, but it wasn't only Dobbs that lost that game for us and the other kids do not have THAT taxing a major.

I agree, but that was not the point. Whether we lay it at his feet or not. The QB admitted he wasn't 100% percent focused on the game because of his academic workload.

This is pretty much how I feel about the question. I want men like Josh and Cheyenne representing UT. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad that comes from that.
