'17 TN ATH Maleik Gray (UT signee)

This is a wait and see situation. May have the tools, but lack between the ears which is a larger part of the equation. We've had many in Orange that were highly talented, but when they got here, they ended up a dissapointment.

I've never seen him play, nor watch his film, but from my experience when there's a special player on the field he usually stands out head and shoulders above the rest. If he's not distinguishably set apart on the field, then there may be concerns, but I'll trust the coaches judgement here.

So, you are saying that post is more respectful than the analysis from de1conley? Hmmmmm...nah

I disagree. He discussed possible reasons for the onfield shortcomings without straight bashing the kid or his character. Much more professional than De1.

I went to see mg play because he's a ut commit that plays in the area that I live in and to tell you the truth, I really expected a lot more because of his ranking

What did you not see that you were expecting to see? Did he take plays off? Was he slow? If you're going to be critical of his performance, perhaps you could elaborate on what you did not like. And, if it is constructive criticism, maybe you could mention some stuff that you did like.

Pastor McGill coming on here giving all us Christians a bad name.... Thanks

I know that he does not need me to take up for him, but you have made it very personal with him. What has happened to the Christian value of hate the sin and love the sinner? Or, in the case of this board, criticize the post, but not the poster? Honestly, you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with just about every thread he posts in.

Blue font was missed.....thought any agreement with de1conley being respectful was too obvious to warrant the blue font.

It's alright drvenner, he doesn't bother me. That used to bother me when folks brought that stuff up, but I know where me and the big fella stand, so I am trying just to let it roll nowadays. This one particular guy here used to think I was Rucker..lol. Bless his little heart. :)

I don't have a dog in this fight, but calling Him "the big fella" is very irreverent.

Of the top five in-state recruits, he’s the only player who has committed to Tennessee, which makes him a huge representative for Jones and his staff. He’s the one player of that group who has (so far) seen what Jones has been doing and believes in the future of Tennessee football. That’s a strong message to send out, and frankly, it really makes Gray a vital recruit for the Volunteers.

If he wasn’t committed, the Vols would be 0-for-5 among the top in-state recruits, and that would be a bad look. Of course, recruits can flip and who knows what Smith will decide, but for right now, Gray’s decision was a big deal.

Perspective: In a recruiting battle between Jones, Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher (two championship level coaches and then some when discussing Saban), Jones was able to sell the in-state connection as well as the future of Tennessee’s program. He was able to out-pitch two of the better recruiters at two of the more prominent college football schools in the country, which had to be encouraging for Tennessee fans to see.

What Gray’s commitment points to is that Tennessee’s future can be bright and the Vols can compete off the recruiting trail and on the gridiron with some of the top schools in college football if they can put it all together. Keep in mind, schools such as Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC, among others, did offer him as well. He’s the No. 6 safety nationally and No. 55 overall player in America. Those rankings plus his offer list make it easy to expect big things from the safety recruit at the next level.

And he’s staying in Tennessee.

Gray could have gone anywhere but he committed to the Volunteers, and that’s a big deal.
