I'll say it again this kid ends up in knoxville....his sister worked with the lady vols basketball program
"Its just, like, a sentimental, nostalgic feel, you know? Just always going down to Tuscaloosa, eating at the different restaurants, Smith said. It definitely plays a role, being a Tide fan all my life, basically. Every time I go to Alabama, I mean, theres sort of a feeling that comes over you, you know what I mean? That definitely plays a role."
Does not give me warm fuzzy feelings.
He been a bandwagon fan all his short life. These young bucks have never seen a suck bammer team. It will happen again"Its just, like, a sentimental, nostalgic feel, you know? Just always going down to Tuscaloosa, eating at the different restaurants, Smith said. It definitely plays a role, being a Tide fan all my life, basically. That improved play means Smith has continued to see more and more offers roll in and the 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman has close to 20 now.
One of the very first offers was from the home-state team, Tennessee, and Smith was on campus in October to see the Vols take down Georgia.
"It was awesome," Smith said. "Beating Georgia like that, finally winning the big game. That might be the turning point, when you look back and point at that and think that was the turning point right there. It was huge to see them progress.
"It showed that all the recruiting is paying off with guys like Preston Williams playing well. Jack Jones and Chance Hall came in and stepped up."
Smith specifically referenced seeing the two freshmen offensive lineman playing an integral part in the Vols' comeback win as something he paid close attention to.
"It's just showing that they are developing their players," Smith said. "That proves, too, if you have the talent they will let you get in there and start."
Smith saw a number of campuses this fall as he visited for games at Clemson, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Auburn and mentioned a few trips that stood out to him.
"LSU, that's the craziest environment," Smith explained. "Just all around, outside the stadium, the fans and the whole culture is impressive. I really like that. Auburn really stood out. I like the staff and the campus was nice. And they played Alabama hard."
Smith saw Tennessee a second time this fall when he visited Alabama as the Tide took on the Vols and came away impressed with both programs.
"Tennessee just keeps proving themselves," Smith said. "They are making strides and they are going to be really good in couple of years and there's no doubt about that.
"Alabama is just a powerhouse. They've been dominant and there's no other way to say it."
247i hear from tennessee probably every day either coach strip (defensive line coach steve stripling), coach mahoney or coach (butch) jones, smith said. coach strip was telling me, since im about to be a senior, in their staff meeting coach jones was telling them its time to step the (foot) on the pedal. My recruitment is speeding up.
theyre constantly dming me, just telling me how great tennessee is and telling the steps the program is going to. But, really, they dont have to tell me because i can really see the difference. They beat georgia. I mean, they were close to beating oklahoma and florida. They decimated northwestern in the bowl game.
i think tennessee football is on the rise. I think theyll be back, probably next year, to be honest with you. Its not really hype. Its real this year.
That a guess or do you know something?
