I want them all to be Vols but realistically they all won't be. So 5 of the 8 is the minimum. If you let half these guys go elsewhere then its a major fail.

I want to load up on all the in-state talent as well, but I don't agree with this. It really just depends on who we get instead of any of these players. This time last year missing out on Joejuan Williams might have looked like it would be a major fail. He was arguably the number one player in the state at a position of need. We didn't get him, but we did end up getting Tyler Byrd. That's a win for us IMO. We missed out on Bryce Matthews as well, but we land Marcus Tatum. Again, I think we win.

Best way to look at it. Tatum was a top OT in state of Florida. And even though Joejaun was a top player in TN doesnt mean he would be anywhere the top in Florida like Byrd was. Imo

You have good points. But this year's In state talent is way better. But yeah, I still just think you gotta keep the majority of your top state prospects in check. Maybe it won't be a major fail if we let half or more of the top 8 go elsewhere but disappointing. But ultimately you are right, if we get equal or better talent then its all good.

Having been to Knoxville twice in the last month, LaVergne, Tennessee wide receiver Princeton Fant is feeling and seeing the positives surrounding Tennessee football. Afterall, the Vols are expected to contend for an SEC Championship next season. But being a Vol for life is more then just pigskin.

"I learned a lot more about family," Fant said. "The players all love it down here and the fanbase is incredible. I learned more about UT and just how hype they are and how the coaches operate. I'm getting a lot of love from the coaches and UT is all about family and academics. Both of those are important to me."

Fant says the Vols are in his top 3 along with Ole Miss and LSU. The message on Saturday was clear to the countless in-state prospects in Knoxville. Butch Jones and company understand how talented the 2017 class of in-state prospects are and what they could mean to the future of Tennessee football.

"They really want me down there," Fant said. "They made that clear and they made it clear that they want to keep Tennessee players in Tennessee. They like how I go up for the ball and how I play. It's important because of my mom and her ability to watch me play. It would feel good to stay in state."

Can only imagine if Fant and Gray were at a 6A Rutherford county school.

Freshman year they were.

What exactly do you mean by "only imagine"?

There's a reason LaVergne isn't anymore. They couldn't compete.

They've beat Smyrna once out of the past 30 years or so.

It's a direct result of neglecting the strength and conditioning aspect of high school football.

"I like Tennessee," Fant said. "I have a great time while I'm at Tennessee. I'm thinking about them really hard. Today was just spending time with the coaches and I feel like I'm at home and that I already fit in."

Fant made the trip up with his teammate Maleik Gray. They spent a good amount of the afternoon and early evening with the Tennessee staff in what was more like a non-formal bonding session. "I love that we have relationships with the coaches that we can come in to their offices and sit down and chill," Fant said. "It's like we are already at Tennessee. I just think having that relationship is really impressive."

"Everything about Tennessee impresses me," Fant said. "Just to know that I'm going to have someone that's going to be there even though I had the injury made me feel good. Especially that they still love me and want me at Tennessee."

"It felt like I was already here playing and I was trying to get Maleik to come," Fant said. "If I ever did (commit) then I'd try to get Maleik to come up here with me. I love it at UT and I love the fans, but I'm still open right now and I'm just waiting for Spring ball and I'm sure before my season starts that it will start to weigh on me to start figuring things out."

"We talk about it a lot," Fant said. "We both really like Florida State and Tennessee. I think there is a 45-50 percent chance that we play together. Ultimately we both have to do what is best for us, but I think it would be great to play with him in college."
