'18 AL QB James Foster

I think the staff is pretty high on Will McBride too, so there may be less urgency from the staff to gamble on a questionable QB prospect than fans realize.

They are pretty high on McBride but no way they skip the chance to get Martinez. Not saying that's what you was saying but I'm just telling people that. We will take a flip from him in a heartbeat. Thanks.

I dont like Penixs delivery.

In my opinion he's one of weaker ones that we're going after at QB. By weaker I mean not as good & not actually physically weak. I would rather take either a Martinez flip or a Rogers or Mayden anyday over Penix. Thanks.

Well, Martinez is definitely not a "questionable QB", so that alone rules him out. They'd take him in a New York minute. I'm talking about guys like Foster and some of the other lower tier guys we're keeping in contact with. They may not feel the urgency to run out and grab one of those guys this early, and instead, wait and see if some newer names develop later in the summer because of their evaluation on McBride.

The VN is higher on Martinez than every service but ESPN. He's not exactly a big timer according to scout or rivals. He's nearly a 3 star on rivals. He's the 32nd player in the state of Califirnia, player 38 is a 3 star. Scout doesn't think a great deal of him.

I trust my own eyes and the eyes of other coaches who have offered him, not the money and agenda driven recruiting sites, and especially not Scout, the worst of them all.

Nick Saban, Hugh Frreze, Kirby Smart, Dana Holgerson, among others, offered him a scholarship. That's good enough for me.

Merely mentioning he's not universally adored and all offers aren't created equally. I love the guy (Martinez).

I'd agree if the Bama offer or the UGA offer were outliers, but those offers are just a couple amongst a really solid offer list. He is a consensus 4* player on all four major sites, so I'm not sure why you think he isn't "universally adored". Admittedly, ESPN is probably a little high on him and Scout is probably a little low. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Because he is not universally adored. That's the main reason I believe he's not universally adored.

As far as the Bama and UGA offers, we will see how hard they recruit him. I think they'll recruit him hard because I think he's an elite QB prospect but a lot of times the offers come now simply so they can say they offered if a prospect blows up, as Martinez may. There are players they've offered that neither would take today. It's a nice feather in his cap no matter, but Lawrence is universally adored, while Martinez is not thought too highly of by several services. "Universally" would indeed include services, who rate players, that you do not care for; those services see him outside of the top 30 players in his state? Or there abouts, hardly adoration, my friend.

Thanks

I still don't get why Lawrence committed to Clemson with HJ already there. He could commit anywhere else with a great chance of starting his freshmen year.:dunno::no:

Well, "universally adored" is pretty broad terminology, so I guess we'll just agree to disagree. I mean, it just sounds like your main point of contention with him is his state ranking on a particular site, and just like all offers aren't created equal, all state rankings aren't created equal. Being top 30 in California is different than being top 30 in Wyoming. He'd almost assuredly be top 10 in 45 of the other 50 states. If he moved east to Arizona, would that make him more appealing?

It's a pretty dumb argument since we both agree that we like him as a prospect. Who cares what Rivals and Scout think. All 4 sites have him as a 4* prospect. Is he Marcus Mariota, or is he Brent Schaeffer? Time will tell.

Pretty sure Martinez is a 4* on Rivals, Scout, and 247Sports.

I think the staff and a few people are too high on the Martinez flip.. hes committed, yes its only a verbal.. but I still think we could push harder for other uncommitted QBs that are still available.

Mayden is one of my favorites.. hes out of texas so he gets a boost from me:).. but I also think sitowski would be a good qb to go after.. idk if he fits our system and he is more of a QD, pocket passer type, but he can still move..
Penix would be nice fits as well

Good thing Butch didn't go with that take on Arizona State commit Josh Dobbs. :wink2:

Its because Johnson is viewed with skepticism by a lot of folks. He doesn't scare off many QB's.

Universal adoration is very simple. Martinez doesn't have it. That's reality, not important but you've decided to argue, I'm simply explaining. You get confused easily. I did not mention his California ranking to point out how far from #1 he is, I used it to point out how close to a 3 star he is. Perhaps you should have someone read and explain the posts to you and then you can draft a reply before submitting it. Take your time.

At least you are consistent, Marcus Mariota was 3 stars.

I know Mariota was a 3*. I was simply using him as an example of someone who was unheralded and became very successful at the collegiate level vs someone who was highly thought of, and flopped (at 2 different schools no less).

We just won't continue the conversation, which I thought was over and done with when I noted that we both agreed that we liked Martinez and thought highly of him. It's apparent that your goal here is to have the last word and be as snarky and insulting as possible in the process, so enjoy that.

You seem to know a lot after it's explained. Relax. Enjoy the O&W game. Take notes.
