I know several are pointing at the offer list and rating, something doesn't add up for sure. You don't get invited to the UA game unless you're a decent player. Perhaps the offer list isn't accurate.

Agreed, something is off

Could be. But something is definitely wrong here.

Why don’t one of you lazy asses on Rivals or 247 just ask Woody or Callahan what’s up with his damn ranking???

:dunno:

Film doesn't look bad, but what's the competition like. If this staff thinks he can contribute, then I'm in too.

Don’t know much about the caliber of HS Football in DC. You would think it would be good.

Wasn’t Rico McCoy from DC?

D.C. / MD football is very good with the likes of DeMatha, Good Counsel, Gonzaga, etc. and St Frances, Gilman, etc when you move upto Baltimore. A lot of HQ players and football in that area.

Why does anyone care about his ranking???? Really! We dont count on your assessment! We count on Coaches. They are the one that offered this young man a scholly! IF COACHES OFFER! IM EXCITED! GO VOLS!

People care because, while there are exceptions and sleepers etc, most of the time rankings and offers matter.

This offer, like the C’bo Flemister offer, is puzzling. But maybe like the C’bo offer, they have plans for this kid. Maybe they see him as something other than his HS position. Idk.

Like most, I trust and defer to the coaching staff.

How did the 1745th ranked player in the country get an invite to the UA game?

Cannon Smith (Son of FedEx founder Fred Smith) got a US Army invite a few years back. There may be some political connection here or could be UA trying to make inroads with a higher rated teammate or could be some local connection since UA is HQ'ed in that area.

His recent offers are decent. Maybe he had a stellar senior year and it's not reflected because they haven't updated yet.

Also his high school has a NG prospect in this class we may be interested and 2 2020 guys who are very highly ranked.

No disrespect to this kid who was an UA All American. I'll never claim to be a scout or no more than most on this forum - let alone the coaching staff. So all I can go off of is offer lists and recruit rankings.

With that said, the thought did cross my mind... take a flyer on this kid (and Kingston Harris, maybe) for the sole purpose of trying to establish ourselves with their respective school? Plant seeds for potential future recruits? We've obviously heard how JJ talks about the significance of two former teammates playing at UT.

Again I'm not saying or suggestion this is what happened. It's just something that crossed my mind.

Rankings and what not matter to an extent...but if this staff sees a specific role for this huge dude knowing they can mold him for it than so be it.

I wonder if we're looking at him as an ILB in the new 3/4.

Clearly not big enough for anything along the lines. A lot of his HUDL is hustle plays where he basically comes in and cleans up on broken down plays. He has good athleticism and closing speed. I could see him in the middle behind a massive NT, being disruptive.

Deion Sanders Jr. was in one of these games and it was obvious he got because of his dad. Most of the players are really good, but sometimes a player or two fool the system (cough cough Dalton Santos cough cough). The opposite is true as well, when the talent scouts beat the recruiting sites to a prospect.
