'18 FL CB Brandon Cross (former UT commit)

Cross, Flint, and Ingle.

I wonder what we will do with Lane, Antounutti, and Warren since they're Tennessee kids? I'm not sure if they really fit.

I think those three are keepers, although they will all benefit from a redshirt and a year of S&C.

Can't see them being turned away. Warren is a 4 star TE and the other two are at a huge position of need and bleed orange.

Gotta keep the linemen even if you don't love them initially. We're at Defcon 1 on the offensive line.

Question: Do you pull kids commitments without having other players lined up? There has to be a concern with regards to filling out a recruiting class/roster, no?

I'm wondering if - since we have some youth in the secondary - if we're wanting to offer more JUCO kids or something at other positions like OL or LB.

It's going to be a fascinating next couple of weeks.

If the kid is never going to touch the field, it's best to keep that scholarship, IMO.

Yes if they do not fit your plan you dont bring them in and waste a scholarship, even if you dont have someone to replace them. Smart move by this staff to not just plug in warm bodies.

I haven't seen or heard anything on Lane or Warren, but there was a recent interview Antounutti did where the Pruitt told him his expectations for him and his wanting to him to gain another 12 or so pounds before he reported. Sounds like they had a good talk so I fully expect Antounutti to remain in the class.

this is why if someone like a Cade Mays goes elsewhere... hush.

Wish the best of luck to this kid. Stayed 100 through it all.

SMH. I really liked this kid too. We're gonna be sorry down the road that we didn't keep him. I think he's a Sunday player. Very similar to Mike Hilton who currently plays for the Steelers. Undersized but instinctive. He'll be a great nickel corner somewhere and find his way onto an NFL roster 5 years from now.

VAndy has been far superior in the DB in recent years to Tennessee. Actually, DB has been the weakness of Tennessee's defense for about 20 yrs.

And.....

Name one Vandy DB better than Eric Berry. That’s what elite players do for you. Nigel Warrior, Gaulden, Osborne and Byrd will make the backend look a lot different next year. Shamburger as well. Plus Pruitt and Fair are far superior teaching wise than what we’ve had in the past.

Not suprising. He described his CB prototype in the PC. Clearly the two commits we had didn't fit that. Jaycee did but he decommitted already.

Jennings as a DB would make a lot of sense if he brought him back to the team.

Vandy doesn't have one DB better than the 4 players you named either. They'll get very good teaching from Fair and how CJP wants his defenses to play.

It also helps the kid in the long run, he will likely see the field in a system that fits him or a team that needs him. Better than sitting on the bench here and transferring later.

Warrior could end up an All-American in this system for sure. We’ve got the potential to dog WRs. Byrd is tailor made to play CB athletically. Can’t wait to see what Fair does with him.

Got processed out.

Most likely this player was told that his opportunities at UT will be very limited and it is in his best interest to look elsewhere.

The strange part is that there was an article on SDS about how "this player must have not been impressed with what he saw in Knoxville during his visit with Coach Pruett this past weekend". Almost an attempt to put the school in a negative light.

Some writers are just stupid. And you cannot fix stupid.

This is a case of a new staff advising those committed recruits that they have no interest in signing to look elsewhere as I mentioned above.

This gives the player plenty of time to land at another school.

Recruits string along schools all the time and then make their decisions late in the process. Recruiting is not and will never be for the faint of heart.
