'18 GA DE Caleb Johnson

Aug 8:Johnson made first-team all-state with the GSWA last season, when he had 110 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions, one that he brought back 90 yards for a touchdown. He also forced five fumbles, blocked a punt and was credited with a safety. Rated a top-50 outside linebacker nationally (though he might play D-line in college), Johnson reportedly favors Tennessee and Georgia.

I think he's a solid prospect, definitely better than the DE's we signed in last years class but I'm very surprised he seems to be ahead of a guy like Jibunor on the board as a weak side guy. Just not in the same ballpark from an athletic / explosive standpoint.

The struggle for elite DE's continues.

Hey man don't cry, you're my buddy but sometimes you getting so verklempt about every little thing raises my blood pressure. Quit worrying so much, its much better for your constitution.

I have no clue what "verklempt" means, so I am proceeding with caution here... But okay :hi:

I agree with Leb4Heismen though. DE recruiting is a bit underwhelming. Still a long way till February though!

Bringing up the VQ pod and their concerns is whining?

hmm... Pot meet Kettle, here you are whining about my posts.

Quit taking what the VQ guys say as gospel. If what they said were always true, we'd have 15 freshmen All-Americans every year based on their annual spring and fall camp reports.

They're journalists as well as fans (some/most of them). They are not coaches.

There's a difference between taking their word as gospel and acknowledging that they are asking fair questions that are concerning.

I have said our recruiting de has not been consistent throughout Jones tenure we have picked up some elite guys but overall we do not have upper tier sec depth....so in year five it's a head scratcher

Yeah, it's just surprising that after the success of Barnett that we aren't seriously in on top WDE prospects. We missed the top guys like Ojulari. Maybe a new one will come up or we'll hit the jackpot with Adam Anderson.

Taylor and Kongbo could be gone at the end of the year. Phillips hasn't done anything yet, so we still have him. But Butch hasn't signed a blue chip high school DE prospect since Phillips in 2015. That will change if Emerson stays at DE but most people don't think he will. If both those guys leave after this year, suddenly we aren't looking very elite at the DE position, are we?

Emerson dropped like 30-40 pounds just a few months ago. If the kid is that committed to himself, his team, and his body I wouldn't doubt him staying at DE through the collegiate level.

How many HS kids do you know that are that committed AND mature enough to do that?

Hell I quit wrestling my Soph year bc they wanted me to keep cutting weight. Nope, I want my pizza, burgers, etc and told them bye.

I won't doubt Emerson.

You are right we are doomed.
