'18 GA DE John Mincey (Tennessee signee)

From VQ

Mincey projects as a hybrid end and tackle in Tennessee’s new 3-4 scheme, with the former Arkansas commit telling VolQuest.com that the Vols showed him film study of Alabama lineman Da’Shawn Hand, hoping to utilize his skill-set in a similar manner.

“They’re going to be switching up schemes from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and I will be playing defensive end in a 4-3," he said.

"I can play stand-up ‘backer in a 3-4 or I can get down and run inside as a 5-technique."

“They used to be, like, the team to beat back then,” said Mincey, who’s ranked the No. 797 overall prospect and No. 38 strongside defensive end in the 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class.

“They said they beat Alabama, like, nine years in a row before Nick Saban got there, so I feel like I can help them get back to where they were.”

Pruitt made a good impression on Mincey during his official visit to Tennessee last month. Mincey called Pruitt “a real good person,” adding that he’s “real modest. He’s going to be 100-percent real with you. That’s what I like about him.”

Coming off his visit to Tennessee last month, Mincey said he liked what he had heard from the Vols about his chance to make an impact on their defensive line and potentially help at multiple positions.

“They’ve been telling me some good things about opportunities on playing and all that,” he said.

“They really gonna be switching up schemes from a 4-3 to a 3-4, and I’ll be playing defensive end in a 4-3, and I can play stand-up linebacker in a 3-4 and get down and rush from a five-technique and stuff like that.”
