Irvin said Tennessee is one of three schools he currently has the “most interest in,” along with Georgia and North Carolina, and he’s already planning to visit the Vols again Oct. 15 to attend their home game against rival Alabama.

“It was good. Their campus is really nice, and the atmosphere there is real good,” said Irvin, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 281 overall prospect and No. 15 offensive guard in the 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class. “They toured me around the facilities and all that after the game, and I really liked it. It was real nice. They’re a really nice school. I’m really interested in them. They’re really high on my list. I’m really interested in them now. I’d have to say I’m kind of more interested in them (than before). It lived up to (the hype). It was definitely good. I really enjoyed it.”

“I think every coach on the offensive side of the ball talked to me while I was there,” Irvin said. “And I got pulled into Coach (Butch) Jones’ office, and we had a good little talk before their game. We were just talking about my game on Friday and how that went. He said I’m one of their top priorities. They said I’m one of their top priorities for (the 2018) class. They really want me there. (Mahoney) texts me almost every day through Twitter. He’s hit me, like, almost every day. … Coach Jones hits me about every day, too.”

“I feel like, if I go there, I can really get (playing) time early,” said Irvin, who plays left tackle at Stephenson but added that he “definitely” expects to play guard in college.

“I’m not going to be committing again until my senior year — probably late my senior year,” he said. “Probably, like, after the football season, I’ll make my decision.”

To follow up on what Lynx posted above a scout from Rivals had a quick meeting with Irvin after a practice about 3 weeks ago & the scout asked him where things stood on his recruitment.

Irvin replied, "still the same. My 3 top schools are still the same & haven't changed. I'm still deciding on UGA, UT, & UNC. They are still at the top of my lists."

"Just got off the phone with Jalil Irvin..

He and his mom really like the Vols. Interesting in that he said he talks or messages with either Butch Jones or Don Mahoney every day.

Wants to make an early decision, but will take visits. He saw the Vols twice this fall. Most all of the southern schools from Tennessee, to FSU, Clemson, Georgia and others are in the hunt.

Full story coming."

“I talk to coach Mahoney or coach Jones everyday,” Irvin said.” They message everyday. It's a good thing they means they really want me. I respond to them everyday out of respect.” Irvin said sometimes it's a message to call. Sometimes it's a message of good luck or have a good day. But the bottom line is that everyday there's a message and it's something that leaves an impression.

“My mom likes Tennessee. She loves the family the vibe there. We both like the facilities. And it seems like they really care about you as a person and not just a player,” Irvin said. “I know Cade Mays,” Irvin said. “He and I are good friends. We have been talking for a bit. He is pretty cool. I met him at the Ohio game. He's recruiting me hard.”

In addition to coming to the Ohio game, Irvin was in town for the Alabama game. As for his next visit to Rocky Top, Irvin said he expects to see a lot of schools in the spring. "I plan on taking in a lot of junior days,” Irvin said. “Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina and maybe a couple of more.”

The 6-4, 280 Irvin would like to see Southern Cal at some point as well. He's also working towards an early decision. “I'm trying to make a decision in May,” Irvin said. “But I want to take my official visits. My mom wants me to get it out of the way. “I'm wide open at this point. I'm pretty wide open.” While Irvin is wide open, he's also getting a feel for how hectic life is going to be over the next year and it's something he never expected. “It's not at all what I expected,” Irvin said. “It's so stressful. You don't know the half. Everyone wants your time. Everyone wants you to visit.”

“I think I have good feet, good hands and can move, but I have a lot to work on,” Irvin said. “I just need to focus on my team and winning a championship. I need to work on my hand placement and improve my feet.”

Announcing he will silently commit? Ok. Hopefully, he chooses to follow Croom's path to TN, but it sounds like he ends up at AU.

Committed to Auburn by showing Malzahn's contact info in his phone. Surely he changed the number, right?

Crazy how things change. Looking back in the fall, this kid looked like a lock. Even 2 months ago, the article Hubbs wrote, it looked very promising with Auburn barely mentioned. Oh well.
