'18 GA QB Emory Jones (Ohio State commit)

"We had the chance to catch up with Emory as he was leaving Tennessee tonight. It seemed to go well for the Vols. He did extra work with his team on Monday and Tuesday to make sure he was able to come to Tennessee today.

Emory says the thing that continues to stand out about Tennessee is the people. He has a good relationship with coach DeBord and he said that he believes DeBord can take him to the next level.

He is driving back home tonight and then hopping on a plane to head to Ohio State for the weekend. He said he could still make a decision before his season begins, but said he could also wait and go to some games this fall."

Sounds like he plans to shut it down after committing.

Seems like a good kid and he's trying to make the best decision for himself and his family. I'll root for him regardless of where he goes, hope it's UT!

Honestly hopes he waits. That would be in our favor. Being on campus for the Bama or Florida game could be a huge spark. Would be hard to not get pumped with how rocking that stadium will be.

I know OSU has a big stadium to, but I don't think their fanbase gets as hype or loud as Neyland when they are playing Indiana and Iowa week in and week out. But, I could be wrong. I have never been to the horseshoe.

According to Callahan, EJones said he narrowed it down to UT and OSU tonight. I thought he had already done that, but I guess it's an official Final Two... for now.

“I have a great connection with them,” Jones said. “We talk a lot. We just have a great connection. We just know a lot of people from my hometown.”

He said “the people here” at Tennessee are among the primary reasons he’s still taking a hard look at the Vols, and he believes he would be a good fit for their spread offense.

“I love all the people here. They genuinely care for me and love me, so that sticks out to me,” Jones said.

“I think I’d fit in here real good. I love the offense they run. I know Coach DeBord, he can make me an NFL quarterback. He can make me a great quarterback and a smart quarterback. I just know he can just train me and teach me to be the best quarterback and person I can be.”

He admitted he’s a bit “worried” about Ohio State being farther from home than Tennessee, but he added that he’s trying to focus on other factors as he weighs his options.

“I’m worried about it a little bit, but I’m not trying to think about that, really,” Jones said. “I’m really trying to just think about what can get me farther in life.”

Jones said he’s “looking at” the quarterback depth charts at both schools, too, but he insisted that “really doesn’t matter to me.”

Sounds pretty simple. Wants to play at Oh state, but, if the distance is too much for him, he'll be a Vol. he hasn't decided yet if distance is too big of a factor

Honestly if I were him, but I'm not, that OSU depth chart should be a bigger deal than he is making it. At least here, he will come in and redshirt and have a chance to be starting by Junior year, maybe even sophomore year. At OSU he is going to have a loaded cupboard to deal with.

Not a fan of multiple day stay at OSU. hopefully distance and relationships win out but wouldn't suprise me to see Urban attempt a parent job offer like he did a kid a year or two ago that was worried about distance. That doesn't always work though because not every family wants to leave their home

Von Bell's mom says she loves these "job offers".

If he's looking at the depth chart then it'll go into the decision. I'd say the same thing if I were him because you don't want it to seem like you're scared of competition. If it's down to UT and OSU, the smart choice is UT by a long shot.

Unfortunately I think the kid commits this weekend at the event.

Long way to go, just have to hope he doesn't shut it down as he hinted he may after a decision.

I have always had a good feeling about Emory but I am getting an even better one now. In his comments he talks about:

1. Feeling that DeBord could turn him into an NFL quarterback and I haven't heard him express those kind of feelings about OSU.
2. Depth Chart. If your mind is on getting to the NFL you sure aren't going to shy away from competition but you need to look at a possible path of least resistance. There have been several examples where a resistant path has gotten in the way of top level talent. One being Max Browne at USC who was the #1 QB recruit coming out of his class but experience + talent with top level recruits who had high level collegiate PT in front of him has kept him from seeing the field. I'm not saying that he's more talented, the guys in front of him may be less talented but they have gotten the opportunity to show it in games and have succeeded, this is where experience can outshine raw talent. After this recruiting cycle OSU will have Joe Burrow (2015), Dwayne Haskins (2016) Tate Martell (2017) and Danny Clark (2017 filler QB) in front of him with 3 of those guys being top tier talent. Here you have Jones and Dormady (2015), Guarantano (2016), Depth Filling QB (2017). Top tier talent with two that will be upperclassmen when his class gets here. I think it would be hard pressed to say that we don't have the upper hand as far as that goes.

I don't know what he is wanting to major in so that could factor but if you take 1 and 2 above, mix those in with the relationships it appears he has built with Tae Taylor and Cade Mays I believe it would be tough one to choose OSU.

Hmmm... Our staff loves him and treats like family, and he loves everyone at UT.

OTOH, CUM is a douchebag extraordinaire.

Doesn't seem like a hard choice, EJ.
