eh. we were already in the top ten in partying anyway. Why not get a good coach while the party continues

Considering they probably lost that much in ticket sales alone, I think they will be just fine with the decision...

Just heard about arkansas offering Gruden. Anybody know the numbers?

He is not going to Arkansas. If he does go to any college to be a head coach it will be Tennessee. I still think he is a NFL guy though. The way the Eagles and Cowboys are playing he might be at one of those next year.

I'm curious as to when Vegas will post odds as to which of the following happens first:

Top 25 Public Research Institution
Top 25 Football Ranking

Looks like Cheek is starting to see the light

Truthfully, I could see Jerry Jones waving enough gazillion dollar bills in front of Saban's nose to make him give serious consideration to the possiblities. Should he win another national title, Saban most definitely would have established his legacy as one of the great college coaches of all time and might be interested in other challenges.

If he does not go to UT, then I am ok with him coming to Dallas.

The Cheek announcement gave the full story on how the $ are headed back to athletics. All scholarship and fellowship commitments are going to be met (that were provided by the athletic proceeds). Bottom line, Haslam and the other big donors are ponying up the money and giving to the University's academics (for tax purposes), allowing the University to go without the athletic money being diverted to academics.

I don't see the private donations committing to this without a really relevent hire happening.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that this doesn't get mucked up again.

Jon Gruden is not interested in Tennessee.

I don't know if grudens interested or not. My worry is that he's not the right hire for us. I don't want to rely on a name to bring in recruits only to find he can't coach college ball. We have talent, but couldn't win with them. Nowhere in grudens resume does it show evidence he has been a success in college ball. Remember the players in the nfl are the wheat seperated from the chaff. Not so in college,it's a proving ground for the next step. I've said it in other post. If you were a potential recruit and you were visited by gruden and his super bowl ring, then visited by saban and his three, maybe four national championship rings........honestly who would you commit to?

Jerry Jones may want to consult with the Dolphins before waving those gazillions at St Nick...imho

The article which you didn't link says nothing about using all of the 18 million to the coaching fund, it was pretty vague actually.

The Arkansas deal was 6.3 mil for 4 yrs I heard. He turned it down I heard too. I don't think he's after big money contract as much he's after a long term contract. He either goes to UT or he goes to the NFL. He will not coach at another college IMO. I feel like his wife wants him to make 5mil for 10 yrs while she gets to live by her parents so the kids can see their grandparents. :)

If that's true then todays announcement of 6mil/3 yrs is strikingly similar to arkansas' offer. coincidence? A booster could easily pick up the tab for the 4th year.
