I just hope that with a move like this then there had better be a big hire otherwise why bother.

Hopefully Cheek doesn't have any say so on this hire I just think that he is a moron and I am a fan of his.

I don't know if grudens interested or not. My worry is that he's not the right hire for us. I don't want to rely on a name to bring in recruits only to find he can't coach college ball. We have talent, but couldn't win with them. Nowhere in grudens resume does it show evidence he has been a success in college ball. Remember the players in the nfl are the wheat seperated from the chaff. Not so in college,it's a proving ground for the next step. I've said it in other post. If you were a potential recruit and you were visited by gruden and his super bowl ring, then visited by saban and his three, maybe four national championship rings........honestly who would you commit to?

The guy with the ring from the league that pays millions of dollars and where any player worth a damn wants to go. Is this a serious post?

A coach is a coach and Gruden will show up with a million times better NFL resume than Saban. Which coach would impress you more, Saban or the guy with the Super Bowl ring that you've seen on MNF for the last few years? Guess which one has more exposure, better name recognition?

We'll be in good hands, if he's the guy. Very, very good hands.

He's the guy. The real Question becomes can we afford him and a staff that can compete ? He will need a full staff and many other things that cost $$$. With the climate in K-Town, and the voracious appetite for WINS NOW, will even the Great Gruden be enough for the "VOL Fans" to give him a few years to be successful ? Rome wasn't built in a day and so forth, but our last HC was run out of town because he did everything right except WIN.
This hire would be Make or Break for the VOLS for the next 10+ years, will Cuter and Billy Bob from the "Field" stay off of Talk Radio long enough for CJG to get comfortable before they lite the fire under his ass when we lose to .....anyone ????

I believe that we gave Dooley a fair shake and all of the fans had his back. Listened to his "they are a good ball team" routine. Gruden is a big boy and realizes what's going on in k town. He is gonna come in and be a rock star. Period.

What has Gruden done lately as a coach? I don't understand this insane worship of this guy. Are we that desperate? Reminds me of another personality cult...

We can do better than this guy (e.g. Stoops, Gary Patterson, etc., etc.)

Desperate???? And how can you possibly know they would do better?!? This mindless babble that people put on here is hilarious. The guy obviously has a coaching pedigree, he has won the biggest prize, kids will flock to play for him and his NFL laden staff, and he brings instant credibility to a program that is on life support...no, DEAD.

$18 mill over 3 years. That will pay Grudens salary. Bet he'd come for $6 mill/year. The bad part, if he comes at that price and flops, we're really screwed.

What I don't understand about any major university complaining about funding is this:
  • Your stadium holds 100K people
  • You play 8 home games a year
  • If your average face value ticket price $50, then that is $40M a year just on tickets sales.
  • Most people are going to spend at least another $20 each on concessions that is another $16M.
  • This does not even factor in parking and other misc. (seat cusion rentals etc.)
  • $56M a year before overhead should help considerably towards
buy-outs and new salaries
Not just you guys but any SEC team should have no problem bringing in a top tier coach.

You are right, there should be no problem. However, government as it is can screw up a 1 car funeral procession. UT has been without qualified leadership at the University and the Athletic Department for nearly 15 years. The AD lost 4 million dollars last year alone. Add in this 9 million dollar buyout for coach replacements to a projected 4 million loss this year and it's 13 million.

They need a sharp business manager in charge of that outfit that knows how to manage money. Not a politician or career government worker.

Win-loss records over the last 10 years as a head coach... that would be my first indicator as to how another coach might be a better risk. Call me nuts.

It's mindless babble, I know, I know...

And the kids we're recruiting now were probably in the 3rd-4th grade when Gruden last coached. They only know him as a talking head on ESPN.

Except Nick Saban isn't the only coach we're competing with. What are Mark Richt and Will Muschamp going to do when they're chasing the same prospects Gruden is?
