I don't think it's fair to the kids to delay the inevitable. It's a bit disingenuous. You can also show potential head coaching candidates that you are serious about winning by making a statement instead of hanging onto a coach you know you'll fire in November anyway. It also allows you to get out in front of other potential openings and start putting out feelers to agents.

Sure you can, but that only tells potential candidates you don't mind going behind the current coach's back to find his replacement. Not a good look for a potential employer to a potential employee, IMO. And that only brings us full circle; if you know you're going to fire someone, and to the point of back-channelling to find a potential replacement, what's the purpose of holding on?

Every business does this unless they're dumbasses.

The friendly term is succession planning. The real deal is that you plan a replacement for every scenario. It's called smart unlike the LSU tactic.

Pretty clever approach there. Turn the heat up, fan the flames of our coach is getting fired, thus running off some of our recruits, then say, "oh, see, he can't even recruit."

There is almost no one saying that they want to keep Butch. Except, Bruin and that is because almost everyone else wants him gone.

I think I remember these Vandy boys being pretty big homers. I wouldn't put too much stock into those predictions yet.

Yes he does because Eric Westmoreland is his coach and mentor. The thing is when things tend to look like a train wreck and better programs point this out it opens kids eyes. Hopefully they'll get a can't miss hire or the season will be saved * highly doubt that* and he can still come to UT as his 1st choice.
