'18 TX WR/CB Treveon Johnson

Johnson made a huge jump on 247. If we aren't bringing him in this weekend and told him we were full, you would think we've gotten good news from at least 1 or 2 CB's.

I believe that we told him we’re full. But I don’t think it’s directly related to CB’s. His twitter bio indicates he wants to play WR. So maybe the staff feels confident we’ll get Green or Copeland, and if not that other positions are a bigger priority.

FYI he tweeted this.

He plays both in HS. We were recruiting him as an "athlete" from what I understand so you're right it could potentially be that the WR spot is full as well or maybe both.

Valid point, but it's only the coaching staff that needs to know that. We don't know everything they do.

Makes no sense to me. We have been searching hard for 1 more possible take at WR......and we've been looking under every nook and cranny for a few legit DBs due to our depth at the DB spots. And this guy is a legit WR threat, and also is a very good athlete and plays DB at a high level. If we turned him away, then it makes no sense to me. We coulda taken him, and played him at whichever spot he excelled at the most. Kid is a good Athlete that plays 2 positions of need. Makes zero sense. This kid should be a take for us. ALL of our last handful of spots aren't filled yet. We have 2 TEs locked up for this class already.....but we are still visiting and pushing hard for a blocking TE Glen Beal.....but we turn this kid away that plays WR/DB and is a high 3*??? Hell, if nothing else, we need a solid Safety prospect in this class since Nikko Hall can't get his grades up. We need atleast 1 Safety. This kid coulda been that. Smh. I don't like this move if true. But I'm not the highly paid guys making these decisions, so it's not on me, ha. But come on! Another TE (3 TEs in a class???) But no room for this kid? Oh well. Go Vols! Maybe I'll join the thinking of "it's surely because all the last 6 or 7 spots are already filled with silent 4* and 5* players" lol

They're not recruiting Beal as a TE...he's a DE. Funny that people are already questioning this staffs recruiting abilities.

I don't question the staff at all on their recruiting ability, but Beal has given numerous interviews where he stated TN was wanting him as a TE.

Well I guess tell Beal he isn't being recruited as a TE. And I'm not sure why you wanna "think it's funny people(insinuating me I guess) are already questioning this staff's "recruiting abilities"? Because I never said a single thing about the staff's "recruiting abilities" as you put it. I simply stated an opinion of MY OWN that suggests that I personally would think it would be more imperative to take a high 3* DB/WR(technically an ATH) over a THIRD TE for this class. Not sure why you would even debate that thought, but ok, just like I have MY OWN opinion, you are also entitled to yours. I'm not sure why you try to make sum kind of jab because I stated an opinion. I thought that's what this board was for. Guess some ppl just like to jab when there isn't any reason to jab. So with saying that, I guess I shoulda checked with you first on if the staff is wanting Beal as a TE or a DE, right? Cause you know the facts, right? An insider part of the staff or something? Cause I was basing my opinion off of the articles I've read about Beal and his recruitment. Appreciate your helpful insight tho. 🍊🍊🍊

Beal is as good a SDE prospect as he is a TE. This is well known. But he wants to play TE in college. The fact we have no good H-backs and we're about to run a Hybrid-ProStyle Offense means that unless we're going to convert another one of our blockers already on roster, Beal would satisfy that need almost immediately. So yes, the staff is going after Beal hard. He blocks as good as he pursues. Our other two TE commitments are both more receiver type TEs. Jacob Warren is 6-6, 210, and I think will make a fine receiver down the road. Dominick Wood-Anderson needs little explanation as he's one of the best receiving TEs in the Nation. Either way, Beal is a definite need. If he commits, we're taking.
