The three-star junior athlete from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., said Tennessee is probably still my top choice among the three schools pursuing him following his visit Saturday for the Vols junior day, and he admitted he likes the idea of staying in-state.
Theyre probably still my top, said Campbell, whos ranked the nations No. 792 overall prospect and No. 126 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite for the 2018 class. The coaches show a lot of love. They treat you as a family, and they say theyll have your back and theyll be your family when you get here, and I believe them.
The coaches, they showed a lot of love to me, Campbell said. And they pulled the in-state guys out and talked to us about staying in-state and just talked to us a lot more about the football program and academic side, and how they coach their program that they expect stuff.
The sales pitch of playing for his home state seemed to resonate with Campbell, who admitted the hype video the Vols showed him at one point during the junior day gave me the chills.
I do like the idea of staying in-state, staying close to home so my family and friends can come watch me play and stuff, he said.
[H]e said college coaches havent seen me play defense or anything yet, and hes not sure exactly which position Tennessee has in mind for him.
Right now, Im preferring defense because my coaches think thats the best opportunity for me, Campbell said. Im starting to like defense a lot better now that theyre throwing me over there. Ive always been fast, so I guess me being quick is a good transition for me to safety.
