'19 AL DT Ricky Samuel

So maybe a nose tackle?

Article quoted him as saying Pruitt was recruiting him at DT. Don’t have a full grasp of Pruitt terminology for his DL, but I think you have a DE, NT and DT with defined responsibilities. Someone feel free to correct.

I think you’re right.

A classic DE
A NT playing the 0 technique
A DT playing the 3 technique

And a Jack LB rushing from the other side.

That sound right?

In the article he actually says they see him as a 5 technique so I guess more like the classic de maybe?

I just hate that Bama and the Barn are both on that 247 list as warm and he doesn’t even have an offer from either. We gotta start winning.

What would you expect them to put for an Alabama kid? Doesn’t mean they’ll pull him.

I've had more time to look at some of the prospects in Alabama for 2019.

Including this kid...

There are 35 or so LEGIT SEC prospects in Alabama.

Me and D4H could be wrong.

Edit: There is about 3 million more people in Tennessee than Alabama. But in terms of power 5 college football talent...they are the same.

I'll be keeping close eye on these two states and how their prospects develop and what colleges offer who.

Alabama has a much larger African American population.

Percentage wise. Yeah. But not in actual numbers i think.

However, you should look at some of Alabama' s top prospects. More than a few are NOT a part of that community

the 6-foot-3, 280-pound samuel said new tennessee coach jeremy pruitt had served as his primary recruiter at alabama before taking the reins of the vols’ program more than three months ago, and new tennessee defensive coordinator kevin sherrer previously was samuel’s main recruiter at georgia. Samuel admitted he was thrilled, but not necessarily surprised, when he found out that tennessee had extended an offer to him.

“that was a big part of it, i feel like, because i knew them at such a level at the other schools, so i kind of knew i was going to get an offer from them when i did,” samuel said, referring to pruitt and sherrer. “i used to talk with them a lot when i went to the games. I went to a couple georgia games and i went to a couple alabama games, and we always connected at those games and chopped it up.”

the offer from tennessee “was huge” for samuel, he said. He also holds offers from south alabama and samford and has drawn interest from iowa, georgia, alabama and auburn, among others. “i celebrated for days,” samuel said with a laugh, describing his reaction to the vols’ offer. “i thought coach pruitt had forgot about me, but he didn’t.”

“i got to talk with the strength coach. I like him a lot, too,” samuel added. “their stadium and their facilities are really nice,” he said. “i didn’t know they were going to be that nice. They’re really nice. And their weight room is really big, too. I like their weight room a lot. “right now, tennessee is in first place. … i’m going back up there for a spring practice.”

“i feel like i’m just going to wait ’til i feel like the time’s right,” samuel said. “and, until then, i’ll just keep working out, keep getting stronger — just keep trying to get better at my game and just let it play out like that. But right now tennessee is number one. They are number one for right now.”

I wouldn't say much higher..The census hasn't been done since 2010 but Ala has 1,251,000 million compared to TN 1,055,000 in AA population. Ala ranked 7th vs TN ranked 11th. My guess it's even closer now but won't know till the next census is done.

Defensive tackle Ricky Samuel named Tennessee his leader over two months ago after his visit to a junior day event on March 3. The Vols are still in a solid position with summer around the corner, but another program has come into the picture.

“As of right now, Tennessee is still a leader,” Samuel told SEC Country. “I have Troy that is creeping up on them. It’d be Troy and Tennessee as the leaders right now.”

Samuel received the Tennessee offer in February and the Vols have remained in contact since. The 3-star defensive tackle received a visit at school from Charles Kelly last Tuesday. He continued to push a similar narrative Samuel has been hearing from the Vol coaching staff.

The player himself tweeted the SEC Country article. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that before.
