'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

I'm not going to act like a Georgia fan and say "Meh, we didn't want him anyway" but can't say I'm terribly concerned about Kirby Smart reviving the career of a guy who got beat out at USC of all places. It's a big pick up for them but we'll see what happens.
He was injured. Not beat out.

Lol 😂 I wasn’t saying the end of the year is when the scholarship was awarded genius. I was making a point that by the end of 2019, they had been awarded scholarships. Which is inside of their Freshman year. Which means the rule I posted above is active and they are on full-ride and although these scholarships are “renewed every year on a yearly basis” they can’t just be pulled for any reason. There would have to be a reason to pull the scholarship, such as, academics, bad behavior, etc.

The coaches can’t just pull those scholarships because they feel like it.

I edited my last post.

Let me ask you this. You are a walk on at Tenn and the HC says this to you:

“We are under our scholarship limit and I want to give you a full ride this semester. That’s worth 20k and I can’t promise you that the $ is going to continue to be there after this semester and if it isn’t I need you to cooperate with me. You on board with that ??”

What’s your response ?

I understand what you are getting at. Also, the full-ride thing I posted up top only applies to individuals in their first year. So walk-ons given money in their second year or third year Etc could possibly fall under what you are talking about.

But the coaches gave those 3 kids Full-Rides in their first year knowing that they were bound by a rule implemented in 2015 stating that scholarships given in an athletes first year obligates them to that scholarship for the rest of their time unless it is removed for other reasons not to include “bad play”

? Lol 😂 you literally stated that the walk-ons given Full-ride scholarships wouldn’t be on scholarship going into the Fall because we pull those scholarships after one year.... they are literally still on scholarship even for the “Summer” of 2020, which means they will be on Scholarship Fall 2020.....

@butchna wth am I missing here?
You’re missing a non-agenda laden conversation partner. 😎

Lil Bruin’s master packs up the car and drops ole squirmy off a block away while driving to Gulf Shores. Did you get a FULL RIDE?

That rule looks good on paper but kids were always allowed a appeal process when their $ is removed even before this rule. Honestly that rule really didn’t change anything other a good PR move by the schools.

but the key my thinking is these kids were told during the recruiting process this was going to happen and thus they are good with not asking for such an appeal. At least that’s my hope that the coaches have told them upfront but I can assure you throughout college athletics players are losing their scholarships ever year due to bad play no matter the rule says

man this kids gonna be good.
Should put up good numbers
Should be comparable to JG
Hopefully he shines between the hedges

I’m not going to debate what could of possibly been said, but I know that Isaiah’s mother said he was on a Full Ride when I asked for how long he was on scholarship, and per the rules if awarded in his first year he is obligated to the scholarship for the rest of his time at UT.

Maybe 2nd year walk ons get the treatment you are talking about? I dunno?

But, talking about those 3 individuals last year per the rules will not have their scholarships taken away.

We will find our way to the 85 through the transfer of individuals who are already on scholarship.

Also, is Buchanan going to be able to play or is he going to have to medically retire?

Buchanan is one I thought of today. Hope he gets back but I doubt it

So per 247: So I dunno what our 85 is currently at but I’d assume some of these free it up.

Transfers Out: 10
Jordan Murphy - Transfer
Jacques Jones - Transfer
Jerrod Means - Transfer
Maleik Gray - Transfer
Ryan Johnson - Transfer
Marcus Tatum - Transfer
Will Ignont - Transfer
Terrell Bailey - Transfer
Joe Doyle - Transfer
Shannon Reid - Transfer

Transfer In: 4
Velus Jones - Grad Transfer
Miles Jones - Walk-on
Cade Mays
Brett Graham - Grad Transfer

Are miles jones and Brett graham
Scholarship guys ?

I don’t think they are but could be wrong
Just looked it up, said Miles Jones is a walk-on and Graham is a Grad-Transfer.

So that puts 3 new counters to 10 transfers out of the program. Plus, however many players graduated.

See a lot of walkon scholarship discussion. Just a tidbit I found in the bylaws last year I thought interesting concerning the "guaranteed multiyear scholarships" instituted in 2015:

The guaranteed multiyear scholarships (at Autonomy/Power 5) now applies to everyone earning a scholarship their first year on campus. Why 1 year? Maybe for the exact purpose of walkons.

That said, 1) the 3 guys last year (solomon, montgomery, garland) all were in their first year, so I would think that guarantee applies to them. 2) regardless, I doubt schools often, if ever, take them away...though even if they did, no one would ever know. 247 has answered questions about walkons before about continuing on scholarship/as a counter and it's always answered basically, "yes they will continue to count, assuming they are still on scholarship". Don't think there's a guarantee and no one ever knows anyway.

@cHiZzLeVOL Just noticed you totally already said all of this 😁😂🤣 I skipped about 5 pages already knowing a Bruin war was a brewin'.

a grad transfer could still be a walk on

From what I read if you are a grad transfer with only one year of eligibility you count as a counter for the year of eligibility and the year after eligibility unless you complete your degree in the first year. Which is why you usually want a grad transfer if they have more then one year of eligibility.

Per this Legislative Services Database - LSDBi

So basically if you are considered a “Graduate Transfer” you are considered a “counter”

If you enrolled at the school and then walked on that is a different story.

247 themselves seem to be unclear on those 3 guys still being on scholarship, though imo the bylaw is pretty dang clear. But anyway, the article is a nice reference for our scholarship numbers:
Breaking down Tennessee's scholarship situation for 2020

"The potential numbers crunch could be alleviated by a current player going on medical scholarship or a signee not making it in, and there are a few situations with preferred walk-ons whose scholarship statuses are unclear"
...
"Montgomery went on scholarship in November, and his status this season is unclear"

Only if you're a scholarship player. Counters are only for scholarships.

"In basketball and football, to specify that a graduate transfer student-athlete who receives athletically related financial aid and enrolls at the certifying institution with one season of eligibility"

Btw that proposal database is pretty sweet. Been checking it for years to see what's coming down the pipeline and understand legislation reasoning.

Don’t think Doyle was on scholarship.
