Allen is not 6'6 255. Rivals listed him at 6'5 230. 247 and ESPN at 6'4 230.
They'll be able to put some weight on him by the fall (I'm sure he already did bulk up in the spring), but 6'6 255 is freakishly large. That's basically the size Clowney entered the draft at (taller, actually, but a little lighter).
On a field with other SEC athletes, Allen fits right in. After adding more than 15 pounds to his frame during winter workouts, he's physically impressive and moves fluidly, demonstrating the kind of athleticism the Vols saw and wanted coming off the edge of their defense from the outside linebacker position.
The Vols want those players setting the edge in the run game and rushing the quarterback off the edge, and physically Allen possesses all the tools to be good at both of those things.
Made his top 5 along with Auburn, FAU, Ol Miss, and Oregon

I think we have to feel really good about being in that Top 5. I think we can throw out FAU and Oregon. Based on past performances on the recruiting trail so far, I feel really great going heads up against Auburn and Ole Miss for his signature.
Don't think this kid is a take. They would have pushed for him when he visited the same weekend as the other JUCO LB, Henry, who committed.
It looks like he did come in around 230 but according to this article from May 15th he put on a solid 15 lbs in the winter workouts making him around 245 now. Maybe he'll stay there or put on a little more. Who knows.

Committed to ole miss. I just... dont get it.

Yeah you do. OleMiss just got slapped on the wrist for some seriously egregious crap they did in recruiting during Freezes time there. So, theyve calculated that its worth continuing the same recruiting practices that they employed when they landed Nkemdiche, Tunsil and Treadwell (among others) in 2013. No doubt they offered Sam a few extra incentives in exchange for his verbal.
If they get busted again they can't blame it on freeze. The university will get hammered back to the depths of the SEC, where they belong.
