As the 2018 signing day came to a close late Wednesday evening, 2019 Virginia cornerback Sheridan Jones felt a bit of excitement knowing that it was finally his turn to be the focus of many programs across the country.

“It feels good. I’m finally next up,” Jones said.”I remember the seniors my freshman year telling me I would be a senior before I know it, and now it is finally here. I am ready to play my senior year and get to the next level.”

Jones, the 4 star cornerback out of Bishop Sullivan Catholic, was originally going to be a part of the 2020 class before he decided to re-classify to the 2019 class which sped things up in a variety of ways.

“A couple of schools came out of nowhere,” Jones said of re-classifying. “Picking a school in a shorter amount of time is a challenge.”

Despite re-classifying, Tennessee was one of the first offers for the 2019 prospect as the Vols offered when Jones was still in the 2020 class.

Jones was one of many talented 2019 prospects to take an unofficial visit to Tennessee last weekend.

“It was a good visit,” Jones said. “I got to see the field, the practice and game locker rooms, and a couple of the coaching rooms to watch film. I noticed everything was really close. You can be out on the field working on your craft and the coaches can be watching you.”

Defensive staff assistant Tino Sunseri is Jones lead recruiter at this time.

“It is a good relationship,” Jones said. “He always asks me about more than just football. He asks me how I am doing in school and how my family and mom is doing. He just cares about me more than a football player.”

Jones has nearly 20 Power 5 offers, and it appears each still has a prime opportunity in his recruitment as Jones is not to a point to name a leader or a top group of schools.

With the re-classification, Jones isn’t going to have as much time to make a decision as he might have once thought so he plans to narrow his list down sometime in the spring to start getting closer to a decision.

Jones said it is possible he commits before school starts in the fall, but nothing is set at this time.

It’s still pretty dope place to live, and I really want us to land a Bishop Sullivan kid bc it’s one of the best programs in the 757 to have an in with.

“it piqued my interest. I’ll probably try and get back a little soon,” said jones, who’s ranked the no. 164 overall prospect and no. 15 cornerback in the industry-generated 247sports composite for the 2019 class. “in the springtime, maybe, in the summer, i’ll try and get back. “i was considering them (before). Well, i wasn't really considering them. But then, when the coaching staff changed, that’s when i started gaining a relationship with the coaches over there. I’ve been talking to them, and then they figured out when we were going to come up there and visit, so (my interest has) kind of been for a little minute now.”

the 6-foot, 170-pound jones said he has been talking with the vols “a lot” and has developed “a good relationship” with tennessee quality control assistant tino sunseri, staying in contact with sunseri since “he got to tennessee” last month.

“it was pretty good,” he said. “i knew they were a big sec school. And, especially with coach pruitt coming over there, i knew it was going to be a couple changes, so they had a couple renovations going on. “i got to spend most of my time with coach tino. They were just showing us around, showing us the film room. We got to see the game field, the practice locker room, the game locker room. We toured the weight room, and they showed us everything is close between the practice field, weight room, coaches’ office. “you could be outside working on your craft, and you could just go right up to coach and say, ‘what’s up? How i look out there?’ — just things like that. Everything’s close.”

“basically, they’re about to be on top real soon,” added jones. “and the thing with the 2019 class: Coach pruitt even said himself he needs some dbs. He said, around this time next year, tennessee should be at the top of the recruiting class.” jones said he was particularly impressed by his first look at tennessee’s neyland stadium. “i know the stadium really caught my eye. That thing is huge,” he said. “i knew a little bit (about tennessee), but i didn’t know it was that big.”

“i’ll try and narrow my list down in the springtime, and it’s possible that i could make my commitment before my senior football season,” he said. "but, if not then, then sometime after that.”
