I was at UT then. Worst defeat you can imagine. We had a great team that year and I still get ill thinking about it.This is not the first nor the last time overconfidence has humbled us to the core. In November of 1969 the 3rd ranked undefeated Vols went into Oxford and laid a 38-0 egg in the Archie Who game. The good news is that we learned our lesson and the next year won the Sugar Bowl and finished #4 in the nation.
Thank you for your service, Redleg. I would have been there later if not for draft number 264. When people ask me to go in with them for the lottery, I tell them I've already hit the lottery!
Total respect for all who served then and now.
Just have to add that in '72 the day after my birthday pulled number 002. Thought I was in good shape. An hour or so later, my birthday drew 001. Rotten luck, but lucky for me a drawdown had begun by then. I was in my dorm room in at UTK listening to AM radio when it all went down.
Thanks for your service. The gang salutes you.I was on an all expense paid trip to S.E. Asia courtesy of Uncle Sam. In all seriousness I would like to point out three things, (1) We do not have CBs. They are safeties that hit pretty darn hard. That is the reason we are good at stopping the run. If a wr gets a step on them they cannot catch up. Thus they give a cushion trying to keep it all in front of them. (2) Spencer Rattler had the absolutely best game of his life. I hope he enjoyed it for he will not be able to replicate it. Throw after throw was inches in front of our DB's fingers, even when he was scrambling on the run..When a quarterback is on like that and he can scramble, you are in for a long day. (3) For those of you that think our coach doesn't believe in defense, take a look at the 2023 commitment board and then come back and talk to me. By the way, I don't care what team you are, crap days are going to happen.
