Same could be said for Mark McGwire.
Not really. McGwire was a one dimensional, juiced up loser. Look at his career batting average. The All Century team was voted on by the fans. That means it has all the credibility of American Idol results.

I agree, and I think if it wouldnt have been voted on while McGwire was hitting all those HR's he probably wouldnt (and shouldnt) have made the team. But he still did make the all-century team and thats a pretty big accomplishment.

No, it's not. It's comparable to that fat redneck Taylor Hicks winning American Idol. Anything voted on by the general public is a popularity contest, not a measure of acumen or accomplishment.

There's a compelling case for Jeff Bagwell at first base.

Probably true . . . Bagwell is hurt by all those HR's he lost while playing all those games in that cavern in Houston. Bagwell and Frank Thomas could be in the argument at 1B.

For pure consistency, Fred McGriff wasn't bad either. There were a few years in there where he was probably one of the 5-10 most feared hitters in the game.

Yeah by the way we should throw the DH spot in this list. But it would just come down to Ortiz anyway.

It's between Cox and Torre for manager, and I have to give it to Torre because if the rings and the pennants.

1st base is probably the hardest position to pick in this list, there have been a lot of good players at the position in the last 17 years.

McGwire, Helton, Grace, Galaraga, McGriff, Pouljos.............etc.

He has skills, but after he spit in an umps face I lost all respect for him. He's still a punk in my book.
Both Hirschbecks are pieces of trash. The only thing Robby could have done better would have been to part his skull with a bat.

Jumping on this way late, but it's a slow day, so here's a list:

1B - Mark Grace (no power, but great glove, was so good in the 1990s. He only hit below .300 5 times from 1990 on, and several of those years were in the high .200s. Frank Thomas or McGriff could easily be substituted.)
2B - Roberto Alomar - no question
SS - A-Rod (Love Barry Larkin, but A-Rod has to be it)
3B - Chipper (he's probably one of the 5 best 3B of all time)
LF - Bonds
CF - Griffey
RF - Vlad (the guy's stats are ridiculous). If we went back to 1985, Tony Gwynn would be on here, no doubt.
C - Pudge (Piazza's bat is insane, but I can't force the pitching staff below to have him catching them)

SP: Clemens, Pedro, Johnson, Maddux, Glavine
Bullpen: Wetteland, John Franco, Smoltz
Closer: Mariano
