2/4 NSD Recruiting Predictions

Thompson definitely helps our chances with Trent Richardson, Darren Myles, AJ McCarron, and Nico Johnson. Kirkpatrick will stay with Bama. I think we will land Richardson and Myles.

two more probables (21)

Tana Patrick or Janzen Jackson or DeQuinta Jones (22)

I still expect one defensive surprise. I think we're better than a 3-to-1 shot to net one of these three---two is not unquestionable, but asking for two shockers is unrealistic.

Knoxville is the furthest north of Janzen Jackson's 3 finalists and with his dad at Miami, Ohio---coupled with the allure of our staff, he could be that surprise.

Monte trumps Chavis and it's not even close.

Alabama will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 linebackers on their squad this fall. Don't be totally shocked if we get Tana Patrick away from them. It is a longshot, but he did pick us over Miami for his final visit and if it was just a vacation, then he would've chosen the beach over the mountains in the middle of winter.

DeQuinta Jones, h.s. teammate of Rueben Randle, has been visited by our staff at least twice and he could be the surprise as well. His position is a big need for us and maybe he is looking to get away for college.

Marcus Hall
Sam Montgomery
Morgan Moses
Quinton Washington
Peter White

Tennessee needs lineman, but I think the ship has sailed on most of these guys. I will be pleasantly surprised to see any of these 5 ink with the Vols on 2/4. Washington/Montgomery are the two most likely to end up in Knoxville.

Pearlie Graves
Eddie Lacy

Both are most likely sign-and-place guys, so I'm not going to rack my brains over this.

Orson Charles
Terrance Coleman (Auburn SV)
Jonathan Evans (Auburn SV)
Artice Kellam (Ole Miss SV)
Kendall Kelly
Brandon Moore
Nu'Keese Richardson (Florida SV)
Bo Tillman (Ole Miss SV)

These are people which we got in on very late. Guys like Kelly and Charles have certainly been hounded by our staff, or else they wouldn't have visited. None seem to have responded to direct contact, from those who write about Tennesee recruiting. I couldn't form a calculated guess on our chances with any of these guys. It's possible we could sway one from this lot---maybe that's Tillman/Evans/Coleman. This pool of players contains soft verbals to other schools and guys who have only surfaced recently.

Kendall and Nu'Keese would be huge recruiting victories for this staff and they'd certainly have a place within the offense, but it'd take a monumental weekend to turn these guys in the direction of Knoxville.

Zaccheus "Z" Mason - Brent Hubbs didnt get the impression the staff was really fighting for him down the stretch and his status as a project may not be very appealing to a staff wanting to win early. He's become a fan favorite, due to the fact that he's a Tennessee high school product and he possesses exceptional speed for his size.

The positives---reports are that 5-6 of his closest friends plan to attend UT next fall. There's also reports that he has NFL aspirations and he sees Knoxville as the best option for that goal. Ole Miss has been on him longer than anyone else. He may sign with the Rebels, but I don't think we're out of it. My confidence that he'll sign with Tennessee is not very high, though.

I've had a feeling for a while, we may also sign someone with a conditional offer after NSD. It could be a soft verbal to another school or it could be someone who visited Knoxville unofficially in the fall. I still think there's a surprise off the radar---like a 3* sleeper currently committed to a less prestigious program.

Right now, Feb. 1st at two o'clock EST, it looks like Tennessee gets commitments from 22-23 players.

Great post... thanks for putting all your thoughts together like this! I'd enjoy reading more of these from other guys who are all over this recruiting class (you know who you are).

The above recruit seems to have figured out the riddle that is college football. If enough beasts 'do the math,' we'll have a huge NSD. If not, NSD next year will be the big break in talent. Either way, with this staff, we're going to get superstar athletes and start winning championships and reclaim our status as one of the NFL's top suppliers! It's simply a matter of time and a process of figuring out which athletes become a part of the great UT resurrection!

After reading alot about all of these recruits, i really believe we are going to whiff on most of them on NSD. That's not putting any blame on the coaches though. Not much you can do with only 2-3 months to recruit a kid when everyone else has a whole year.

i agree. i don't see our class as a top 25 class right now especially after we lose oku. it's going to be hard for kiffin to produce a good result with the players we have now. i think there are 7 or 8 teams in the sec beating us in the recruiting rankings. it's sort of depressing. atleast we have a somewhat easy schedule next year and should be able to pull out 8 or 9 wins.

.....nothing like thinking positive:banghead2: ........If we get M. Brown and even if we strike out on the rest, I will be happy.

I agree. The best to hope for is a top 20 finish and solid groundwork laid for next NSD.
