Butch has made Tennessee a desired destination. More players want to come to Tennessee than spots that are available.

It is a good problem to have, but I don't like this part of it, either. However, if players are allowed to change their minds right up until signing day, then they can't complain when the schools do the same.

I saw on Bleacher Report that Jordan Smith (4 star DE) decommitted from SCe and will go to either Tennessee or Floriduh. Replace one 4 star DE with another?

I will say this, I am greatly impressed with the level of maturity and character in which Marshall and Okonya responded to the news. They took the high road that is often neglected by teenagers who have taken a shot to their pride and ego. Kudos to those young men whose attitudes, along with their on-field talents, will lead them to great situations. Your parents should be proud.

Surely Jones was up front about their offers being conditional. Surely he was straight with them and their parents from the beginning about their offers possibly being withdrawn, depending on shifting team needs.

I surely hope that is the way he plays it. Seems to me to be the only way to play that game...the only honorable way, that is.

Gave them both basically 2 months to get another full ride. Bette than what happened last year so I think Butch is doing it the right way

IMO, "doing it the right way" would mean not accepting commitments from marginal prospects in the first place and avoiding this type of situation all together. But yeah, definitely better than the Ford situation last year.

Supposedly UT made calls on Ford's behalf, no idea if that is true or even legal according to NCAA rules though.

I think they try to get in early on some prospects that have the potential to blow up their senior seasons. If they do, we praise them for getting in early on a guy (Christmas-Giles). If they don't, we bash them for taking a marginal prospect when we should've known that they wouldn't fulfill the potential our staff saw in them. Just like in college when they have to perform to earn their playing time, these high school prospects have to perform at their highest potential to prove they're worth these scholarship investments.
