2 extra inches

I remember watching the game and I thought it was Foster. Then again, it was like 10 years ago...

Sorry, BRO.

Fair enough. To be fair to you, he did have WAY too many inopportune fumbles in his career that cost us big games, so I guess you could say the fumble was his by default. :)

The one that comes to mind for me is the 1990 opener vs Colorado. If Chuck Webb gets out of bounds just a second earlier we get a shot at a game winning FG. Also that same year Greg Burke missed a GWFG with 10 seconds left by inches vs Auburn. Both games ended in ties.

Titans vs. Bills 2000.
Remember the Music City Miracle ? How many times did they show the replay checking that is was actually a lateral? Still a controversial call.

The 2000 "catch" by UF's Gaffney could have been determined by an inch or two. If Gaffney had an extra inch to his fingers he may have held on and actually caught that pass ... rather than having the official rule it a TD the minute it hit his hands and get swiped out . the official a former Vandy grad if I recall ... I stiil lose sleep over that one ...

I agree. That was the angriest I've ever been over a game. Horrible call. They also botched another crucial call earlier in that game. They call Travis Henry down near the goal line but he actually scored. Those two bad calls resulted in a 14 pt swing in florida's favor. If memory serves me correctly, the same crew called the Alabama/Vandy game the following week. They botched a number of crucial calls in a game Vandy was competing in and with proper officiating, could have won. I recall reading a couple weeks later that the SEC had reviewed the game tapes and suspended the crew.

UT-Memphis '96 on the BS kick return where Memphis player's knee was clearly down by a few inches.

Football is often described as a "game of inches." In many cases, it truly is. (Titans Super Bowl and last year's Iron Bowl sideline stepping last play come to mind.)
But when it comes to Tennessee football, when has a game ever been literally determined by inches? I've been thinking about it, and the one that stands out to me is 2004 FL when Wilhoit's 51 yd FG literally cleared the upright by a couple of inches. Literally a few inches turned a would-be all-time heartbreaker into one of the fondest of memories for Vols fans.

When you think about the games that came down to just a few inches, what comes to mind?

Alabama game with all the blocked field goals, 09 I believe. A few inches higher, and we win the game.
