Through 3 games our starting guards (Barton, McRae, Richardson) are shooting 52% from the perimeter.

Those same 3 guards also have 21 assists on just 6 tunrovers, a 3.5:1 assist:turnover ratio.

Damn.

We need to box-out and get some boards. Also, our offense seems like the same free-for-all strategy as last year. Also, we need to improve from the line.. easiest points in the game that make or break games. When the shots aren't falling, we're in trouble.

Damn.

They are playing good, I look forward to seeing them go against someone that really pressures us like Bama typically does.

Obligatory we've played Maxine's Beauty College, they should hit wide open shots, Pearl would have had em shooting 70%, too many TOs, season's over, fire Half-Season.

That about covers it.

Rebounds this season: UT: 115 Opponents: 100

Xavier beat us on the boards largely due to Stokes only grabbing 4 boards but it's hard to grab a lot of boards from the bench.

Since that game, UT has out-rebounded the opponent 81-60.

I'm not going to argue on the free throws, but I will say, without looking at the stats, that Stokes free throw shot has improved. Looks much more comfortable.

Agree on Stokes FT shooting. The biggest thing, maybe, is he looks like he knows they are going in now. Confidence is huge from the FT line.

Rebounding and our defense are my 2 biggest question marks, unlike a lot of people I'm not really worried about our offense.

My biggest concern would be depth in the front court.
Can Stokes and Maymon play 35 minutes without fouling out against better competition?
I don't see much beyond the starters.

It'll improve as games go on. They are getting better at jumping lanes and moving into areas when the ball is moving.

A big reason is they started switching more screens after halftime of the Upstate game, instead of trying to fight through everything.IMO Their anticipation will keep getting better as the year goes on.

You're more than likely correct but I want to see it against better competition. I really want to play Xavier again.

Front court depth doesn't concern me as much if we can continue to be effective with a four guard lineup when/if one of Stokes or Maymon gets into foul trouble. Armani Moore had 7 rebounds last night. If we can get scoring from our main guards, then I don't see a big drop-off offensively and in rebounding. Defensively, we might take our lumps against bigger front courts. This is where an effective zone would come in handy.

That's where the 4 guard everyone is calling for comes into play. Maymon or Stokes get in trouble and you bring Armani in at the 4, or put Josh at the 4 with Thompson/Barton the 1/2.

Man last night they were doing great on ball reversals. That's something they didn't do at Xavier and really vs USC upstate. Barton, Thompson and Richardson are really good on ball defenders. If stokes and Maymon can lock down the paint, like they haven't done, then we will be straight. This team come SEC play is going to look completely different than it does right now.

We'll find out if it'll fly soon enough.
could be the difference between 1-2 and 2-1 around the 29th.
Hoping it works big time.

Would be nice if Davis continues to improve on his physicality. I like the different things he can bring to the table.

Thompson
Barton
McRae/JRich
Moore
Davis

That would be a good lineup to press with also. The problem is Davis isn't ready to guard most 5's yet. IMO

Shooting has most definitely improved. I'm interested to see how Martin's offense performs the next time it takes on a decent defense. Right now, UT is only has an assist to FG ratio of .459 assists per FG. That's 229th in D1. Barton can score very efficiently, but it is yet to be seen if he can keep the half-court offense effective against a tourney team-level D.

Its amazing what setting quality screens and rubbing your man off them can do for an offense. Hopefully against the next decent defense we move the ball and work to get open, instead of running 9 outta 10 NBA teams offense.(like we did for a game and a half)

Yup I agree. We are quick enough to switch on most screens. Fight through them is a mistake.
