20 straight sellouts at Neyland

This has been an unexpected surprise. There were times that I thought the days of selling out Neyland Stadium like this were long gone, even if the product on the field matched the heydays of 90’s. Seemed liked the climate had changed and top programs struggle to sellout due to so many factors including the economy, more choices to spend your dollars like the Titans, people watching from the comfort of home with their huge HD TVs, being able to watch multiple events at the same time, access to their internet etc. But now we are even selling out the cupcake games. Knoxville is just built differently when it comes to UT, it’s the Shangri-La of college sports imo. Our fans our special and am proud to be a Vol.

You’re right. But those fans aren’t all from Knoxville. There is a caravan of Vol fans flying car flags, sporting car magnets, etc. that makes the trek from Middle Tennessee every game. It’s the University of TENNESSEE and it’s all Big Orange Country. There’s nothing like it.

So what was the last non-sellout? 2022 Ball State? That was on a Thursday night so it would make sense.

Agree with you 100%.
I imagine kids growing up today in middle Tennessee have their interests split between the Vols and Titans. People my age, it was all Big Orange since Tennessee didn’t have a pro team.

A little, but that interest isn’t split equally. The Titans don’t grab people’s interest here like the Vols. I see a lot more UT car stickers and paraphernalia than Titans.

But also, they’re not in competition. So most of us are Vols and Titans fans. I just care MORE about the Vols because college football is more important.

Several years ago I lived in Kingsport and on a Saturday night after a game it was bumper to bumper on I40 and I81 with car flags and stickers. I am sure that was the case on I75 in both directions and I40 West.
