I think we land Singleton next, then Williams and close out with another guard/wing though I'm not sure who yet.

What about Emmanuel Negedu? I noticed that he was thinking about committing to Arizona, but decided to hold off. Scout.com says he's narrowed it down to Arizona and Tennessee. Is he going to visit Knoxville soon? If Pearl can work his magic, maybe he could be the fourth guy. Thoughts?

I think if we can wrap up another big commit, Osby may have to give us a serious look. I know it's a longshot, but other big time players coming could certainly help.

The problem that potentially exists with Negedu is that Brent Hubbs thinks it will be Negedu or Singleton. Negedu is supposedly committing soon so Singleton better get on the ball. I think we could take both since they are way different players, but they think, if we land one, then either we won't land the other or we will drop the other.

If that's the case, I think Chris Singleton would be the better option.

I hope it works out that we get Miller. Four more years of "Maysville, KY," sounds great to me.

I know Pearl wants two guards in this class. Singleton is more of a perimeter player, but not really considered a guard. Williams is the top guard on our board.

I'm one who really doesn't want Negedu at the expense of Singleton. I've seen Negedu listed at 6-6 by one service. That's small for a PF. Singleton offers more versatility and more of what we need...size. Hopefully, the push on Negedu is Pearl's way of getting Singleton to go ahead and commit.

I'm hoping Teondre Williams is the 2nd guard we land, but if we land Singleton, Elliot Williams, and ANY other guard, I'll be happy.

Well, Negedu is a stud. They are totally different players. He plays much bigger than 6'6". He has amazing athleticism. Finish around the rim with dunks and not lay-ups. He would thrive in our fast pace system. I want them both, personally.

Negedu plays a ton bigger as rick said. He punished Singleton one on one. Singleton is a good shooter at 6'9" but lacks defensive presence and rebounding, both of which Emmanuel excels at. If we could mix the two, we would have a top 5 player. Also, Negedu is alot thicker. I would rather have Williams, Singleton, and Negedu to go along with Jurick, but I don't think Pearl is interested in that.

yea i don't think we will take both of them (singleton and negedu) unless maybe tyler smith falls through. guard will be our biggest immediate need for 08 especially since pearl's system revolves around guard play

Emmanuel Negedu has commited to Arizona. Chris Singleton come on down and be the next contestant on "Early UT Commitments."

hmm.. ok.. well I'm fine with that since I've always liked Singleton the most.. but it will be a huge hit to our class if we don't get either.

If we have another spot available after we hypothetically get Williams and Singleton, I wouldn't be surprised if we persured Beas Hamga, then PG DeMario Williams, 6'4" 175lbs

We aren't going after Hamga. We are going after a guard for the 4th spot. DeMario is an interesting prospect because he is also a great WR and we are pursuing him for football as well. He'll have to pick one or the other if he comes to UT. I don't know how hard we are pushing for him for basketball though. I think we have a few other guards ahead of him.

We have a number of guards higher on our list than Demario Williams. I coach against Demario and he is a very good Single A basketball player. But, he would not be an impact player in the SEC. I think if we get E. Williams, P. Jurric, and C. Singleton then we will look to fill our 4th spot with the best "shooter" we can get at that off-guard spot.

How about this guy Iman Shumpert:

Iman Shumpert, SG, Full Package

The 6-foot-3 guard from River Forest High School in Oak Park, Ill., entered the spring as a must-see player. He played well in Pittsburgh last weekend, but he put it all together consistently in Akron.
Shumpert has a game similar to Kansas guard Mario Chalmers. Shumpert can shoot the 3-pointer and is very good on defense. The Illinois native moves at a quick speed and is starting to develop a killer instinct in the clutch.

His confidence has to be at an all-time high right now. He certainly earned the respect of the basketball world with a string of big-time performances. Since coming back from bad leg cramps in the playoffs in Pittsburgh, Shumpert has been playing as well as any two guard in the country.

Illinois went three coaches deep at his games, while Tom Crean of Marquette trailed him all weekend. Georgia Tech, Clemson, Northwestern, Tennessee, Iowa, and the entire Missouri Valley Conference followed him from gym to gym as well. :good!:
