2011/2012 Breakout Player...

I was watching the practice video (I know, it's just practice..practice?) with CCM and McRae was filling it up like an NBA player--uncanny how he was hitting those baskets with the way the coaches were running them--anyone else see it? He gets my vote.
Didn't see it but did read this:

McRae was among the more impressive players during spring workouts and appears to have grown an inch up to 6-foot-6.

"I've got a plan to do some things that some people might not expect from me,'' said McRae, who struggled to find playing time behind junior Cameron Tatum and outgoing senior Josh Bone this past season. "It doesn't matter to me if I play the two or the three.''

Martin said he likes what he sees from McRae.

"I think Jordan has the potential and the skill package to be a guy that can score the basketball,'' Martin said.

got the feeling that McRae will fill the Hopson role of long athletic guard who slashes to the basket. also, i hope Golden learns another move behind the "behind the back"

I've yet to see any real evidence of that. He's too slow to guard the 3, he's not physical enough to play the 4. He doesn't handle the ball well enough to play the 3, and he has virtually no offensive post game. The only thing I've seen from him is being an incredibly inconsistent shooter that can jump.

So you're saying there's no chance he improves?

I don't think Law is saying he won't improve. (He'd almost have to improve just by default - can't get much worse). I think Law is saying he is extremely unlikely to be a "break-out" type player who people will take notice of. Alot more to breaking out than just merely improving somewhat

I completely agree

You can't coach speed, and his nature isn't to bang inside with the big boys. His game is flawed due to him used to being on the perimeter because he was a late bloomer. It's not all his fault, but the weaknesses in his game may not be able to be improved upon enough to have a "break out" season no matter who is coaching him up.

McRae has to be the obvious choice. I'm not ready to buy into Golden just yet.

It's just a guess, but by the way swiper plays, I'm assuming he was a guard in Cali and hit a late growth spurt. That really can jack up someones shot. Now he's big and wide, but doesn't have the composure or game to play inside.
I could be completely wrong. He may have been that tall in 9th grade or something, but his game would imply the former.

He was 6'2" as a HS Soph IIRC and grew to 6'9" by his Sr season and is a tad over 6'10" now. I think the potential is certainly there for him to develop into a Rashard Lewis type player someday, but IMO his peak won't happen til he is 26-28 yrs old.

Yeah I feel like he has it in him...even if he isn't stellar next year, I sincerely hope we can see a noticeable step in the the right direction for him.

We really need him to develop and improve substantially. Last season, when he was healthy the first few games he showed some flashes of being a capable player. Hopefully Martin can instill some meanness in him and teach him how to use his size to his advantage.
