i'm sorry that i'm not as up to date on my recruiting as most of yall are, but i was looking on cbssports and they have A.Richardson as their #20 recruit in their top 100. I noticed he's from Nashville. Seeing how he's an OL, how close are we to landing him? like i said, i'm sorry for being behind this year, i've been working alot. I just like landing the big fish out of our own ponds. Thanks, now i'll hang up and listen.

now we know who the Big Fish is....

as far as the "telling people to look around" idea goes, i dont see what people's infatuation with DY or Tino Thomas are. I was under the impression that for the longest time, they werent takes. Almost like we settled on them. What did they do to become takes now?

DY and Tino are two solid players that have strengths and weaknesses just like every other prospect. The offer to Devrin is an attempt to fill a specific need, and regardless there is no denying the kid's speed and elusiveness. Tino's offer sheet is fairly impressive with multiple offers from other SEC schools, so other staffs have obviously had a positive assessment of his skill set.

With all that being said, I personally believe that the emphasis on the in-state commits, as well as the "8 hour radius from Knoxville" prospects has as much to do with the future as the present. BASIC MARKETING!!

Recruiting is all about connections and the perception of your program in that region in general, so you have to establish your brand in certain areas for future success.

If Richardson, Clear, Jackson, and Lanier are all locks, why haven't they committed... how do you know they are locks? They would be 4 great gets, and I would love to have all of them. I just don't understand why you have them listed as locks.

Sometimes you want a few kids, especially a few big ones, to commit at "all-star" games and NSD for the pub. Jmoore could give more info but basically they are silent commits with a planned commit date IIRC.

I don't see how we can't sign 27 instead of 26. Last year we signed 27 but J Brown, D Clark, M Dixon, and E Lofton did not get in leaving 23 enrollees meaning we could sign 27 and backcount 2. Am I missing something?

hmm thats interesting.... so they don't count towards our final allowed number of commits?
They would have to or would have to greyshirt and be on academic scholarship until next year. If they greyshirt they can have no contact with the football facilities. I believe that is all right but LWS or LV could probably say for sure.

I didn't realize that they could not have any contact. That doesn't seem like a viable option for any high school recruit in a normal recruiting situation.

I'm pretty sure this is correct, I think LWS covered it in another thread.

I can see why a rule prohibiting that is in place, but it sucks for people who recruit kids worthy of full rides academically. And it sucks for those kids, who might've gotten a chance to play ball at a school that would've have otherwise taken them.

Out of curiosity, what did Skylar McBee do last year? Did he have to pay everything, or were there any (non-sports) scholarships he could take?
