2011 Recruits To Watch

in all honestly, i loved seeing Janzen nearly decapitate Marlon on that late hit. loved it.

No arguing that, I was speaking more for the guy in the section I was sitting in cursing Marlon, telling him to go to hell, and giving his grandmother grief. Some people just can't get over things. Ill gladly take Janzen knocking him out every year from here on.

Funny Marlon's only 2 catches were against us too.

It depends on the position the kid plays and where the kid plays. Some QBs, especially later bloomers, may not have a ton of offers just because QB isn't a position you will load up on, ideally. Most big schools offer 3-4 QBs in a given class. A kid in a small Mississippi town likely won't get much press compared to a kid at a 6A school in metro Dallas. Not every recruiting staff leaves no stone unturned. Also, kids that go to camps will likely draw more offers than a kid that has already committed to his dream school and decided to concentrate on working out. If Eric Maclain was to only land another few offers, he would still be a top level prospect.

New to recruiting so I am asking for insight. What recruiters are the best in finding hidden gems? Is it usually guys on smaller schools that just have to work harder? Was wondering since DD was at LA tech if recruiting at a small school would help in talent spotting.

I'd say this staff will have no problems with it. Love him or hate him, Orgeron was great at finding diamonds in the rough. It just boils down to hard work, good connections, and a great eye for talent.

CLT hopefully found us some hidden gems late this year with Jackson, Probst, Crump, and Sapp.

yea, Orgeron is the one who found Dixon and Copeland. CLT also found Taylor. too bad everyone got on the bandwagon of the last 2 late in the game.

They both fell out of the 250 is what I'm saying. I would love to Maclin but I don't think he is as good as originally advertised and I think Malone is vastly overrated jmo.

I'm from Hardin County and we played Ridgeway in the playoffs this year. Our football team doesn't impress me in any way... but Maclin was shut down by our mediocre offensive line. He was not impressive at all.

Thanks guys! O's name comes up a lot so I figured he'd be mentioned. Think Wilcox will be any good at recruiting? Since he's been recruiting slightly lesser talent with some success curious how he'll do in the SEC?

It will take a little while with Wilcox. The problem is that recruiting is all about relationships and he likely has very few in this area of the country.

If I remember correctly Boise had quite a few Cali kids, maybe Wilcox can spread out thattaway...

I'd rather not waste time with that. We landed a handful of westies under Fulmer but we will never have much of a pipeline to any areas past Oklahoma. If a kid from the west really wants to be a Vol, then we will pursue. If they have lukewarm interest, then don't bother. I'd rather him concentrate on building strong relationships in a border state.

Yes, that is true. But he wasn't recruiting the same caliber player at BSU that he will here. If he has ties to a school that has a highly rated player, it shouldn't take but a phone call or two to find out if we have a shot with the kid or if we're wasting time and energy.

Phone bills are expensive. I say we focus in on kids from Gibbs and Cocke County.

2 WR's to look for are Tray-Becton-Martin, even though he could be leaning towards UGA. And Tino Thomas. This kid is an amazing playmaker. He Is also really good in and out of breaks.

The follow up to one of the best receiver classes in the country will not be two one-star receivers, at least I hope not.

When it's all said an done Tino will become at least a 4 star WR

uh, huh. One to four(at least) in the next three-four months? Good luck with that. When I see a major service rank him there or a couple upper tier sec schools offer him I will believe it.

By the way, duke is listed as his school of interest, no Tennessee.

Tino has skill. I wouldn't be surprised to see him up there.
