I'm all for recruiting in state as long as the players have 5 & 4-Stars next to there names. When we start taking the in-state 3-Star guys that's when we start having problems.

Put that in past tense if it's not a dead period.

Yep. Visits to '11 guys schools will be in proggress shortly if not already. I think a lot of coaches visit kids during HS spring ball when it doesn't interfere with their own spring.

We're always going to have to recruit nationally, but since UT is still in rebuilding mode it would make it much easier if we could keep the local boys who are capable of playing in the SEC.

Also Dooley can hit 5 or 6 of these guys up on one trip while recruiting them. Also it will save the program countless $ not having to fly out west with all this talent here this year. I hated the huge obcession the last staff had with CA. Georgia, the carolinas, Florida and a few from TN would be fine with me. Assuming we still cherry pick all the other states as per norm.

1. They don't pay for commercial flights regularly I would assume. Its also probably safe to say that the location of a few recruits would not change the travel budget for the UTAD.
2. There's not usually top talent here.
3. They need to do the exact same thing the previous staff does and did, get top talent- don't give a poop where it comes from.
4. The only thing that should change is a few more targets happen to be from TN.

Yeah the money isn't so much of an issue, UT spends more on recruiting than just about anyone.

Some of the d1 instate prospects are in areas of need. Richardson ot. Long center. Redden and a couple others potentially d tackle. Our class will be 20-23 next year, if they could get four in state kids to fill needs that would help tremendously.

Just 20-23? Why is that?

That got me to thinking, Auburn must have an awful lot of non-scholarship players on their team. They only have 13 SRs but signed 32 freshmen

Thirteen rising seniors or thirteen seniors this academic year?

85 scholarship limit. 81 right now. 16 seniors. Do the math, 20. Then maybe some defections etc. That I'm estimating could be up to three.

With Rogan and Berry going to the NFL, I only counted 50 returning scholarship players. Adding the players that we signed and if all qualify thats 74.

We need to lock down the Top 5-7 players every year in the state, IMO. It worked well for us in the mid to late 90s. Since then, the talent level has slipped somewhat but seems to be making a comeback.
