Pearl has shown a willingness to recruit nationally, and if Tobias Harris succeeds as much as I think he will it will certainly help our brand in the NYC area.

That said, I think Pearl is doing a great job making Atlanta into a hotbed for TN recruits. He did not need any help from the Pump brothers (who cannot help any longer) to get the Celtics to become a pipeline for TN.

Examining the 2012 class geographically (can Mama come and watch the home games?) there are tons of intriguing prospects.

12. Jarnell Stokes
Memphis Central (Memphis, TN) PF, C 6-7/250
Bruising big man earned Class AAA All-State honors as a sophomore after averaging over 14 points and 12 rebounds per game for a Warrior team that handed nationally-ranked Melrose a loss.

14. Hanner Perea
United Faith Christian Academy (Charlotte, NC) SF, PF 6-8/210
Originally from Colombia, Perea is one of several intriguing talents at United Faith.

26. Alex Poythress
Northeast (Clarksville, TN) SF, PF 6-7/205
Helped Northeast go 29-3 and reach Tennessee's Class AAA semifinals as a sophomore.

27. Twymond Howard
Pearl (MS) SF 6-6/200
Also a standout on the football field, Howard’s basketball talents appear to be taking over after posting 18.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during sophomore campaign.

33. Jordan Price
Southwest DeKalb (Decatur, GA) SG, SF 6-5/200
Tennessee's Division II-AA Mr. Basketball award winner last season at Chattanooga McCallie, starting new at Southwest DeKalb this fall.

37. Jordan Adams
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) SG, SF 6-4/210
New addition at Oak Hill after All-State sophomore campaign in Georgia.

He i s on the list because Pearl I believe made connections with him when he was in Georgia.

47. Evan Nolte
Milton (Alpharetta, GA) SF 6-7/195
One of six Division I prospects at Milton, which could contend for preseason national No. 1 ranking.

53. Tony Parker
Miller Grove (Lithonia, GA) PF, C 6-8/260
Averaged 10.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for Georgia's Class AAAA state champions, then won gold medal with USA U17 team at FIBA World Championship in Germany over the summer.

62. Charles Mitchell
Wheeler (Marietta, GA) PF, C 6-8/230
Averaged 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore in supporting role for Division I-bound Wheeler guards Jelan Kendrick (Memphis) and Phil Taylor (Florida International).

64. Willie Clayton
Thomasville (GA) PF 6-7/200
First team Class AA All-State pick led Thomasville to title game with team-leading 17.4 points per game as a sophomore.

66. William Goodwin
Southwest DeKalb (Decatur, GA) PF 6-8/220
Rugged post player pulled down 11.1 rebounds per game and swatted 5.8 shots as a sophomore, also a football standout.

69. Jarmal Reid
Columbia (Decatur, GA) SF 6-5/230
Has a football build but can definitely ball, playing a major role for Georgia's Class AAA state champions last winter.

72. Devonte Pollard
Kemper County (DeKalb, MS) SF, PF 6-7/195
Has drawn rave reviews in camp settings and with Jackson Tigers in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League.

73. Robert Carter
Thomasville (GA) PF 6-7/230
One of two Top 100 forwards for Georgia Class AA finalist Thomasville.

88. Braxton Ogbueze
United Faith Christian Academy (Charlotte, NC) PG 6-0/185
First year at United Faith after transferring from Vance.

93. Tyler Lewis
Forsyth Country Day (Lewisville, NC) PG 5-11/160
NCISAA and Associated Press All-State pick, Lewis put up 20 points, 8.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game.

98. Damien Wilson
Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) SF 6-6/195
Atlanta Celtics U16 standout taking his game to Oak Hill Academy for junior year. \

United Faith in Charlotte (4 hours away)
and Milton near Alpharetta GA should have a Vol assistant camped out until the 12 class signs!

It looks like we may lead for both Howard and Poythress which would be a solid foundation for the class.

Stokes, Adams and Wilson are all interested...

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-basketball/104776-vols-bball-recruiting.html

If 2012 is as strong as we can dream it could be now, it would be the best class of Pearl's tenure.

If he finished 2011 with O'Bryant and Adonis Thomas, it would be the top class in Pearl's tenure, and would then be surpassed the very next year...

Exciting stuff!

Perea and Obij Aget played basketball for a private school here in Birmingham their freshman year. Both players are extremely good.

Thomas = Memphis. O'Bryant = State.

In an article on Rivals today, Stokes said if he had to commit right now it would NOT be to Memphis. He said right now, it would be Missouri or Tennessee

I think the 2011 class is being hurt by the investigation but will still end up being okay.

I think we will have a great season this year and I think Pearl will have an absolutely stellar class in 2012.

Yes Bruce Pearl. Who I anticipate remaining as the head coach of the team.

Well, that pretty much settles it. Pearl will be the coach and will continue to be great at recruiting in spite of the current situation. MHF and another absolute prediction.

Can anyone tell me why everyone hates on MHF? He has stuff I sometimes disagree with, but sometimes he's on point.

I agree. He often presents great information, and interesting views and opinions of the issues we debate on VN. We all say stuff that a lot of posters disagree with, but I, like you, have never understood why MHF gets so much sh*t on here.

I don't hate on him. I simply disagree and let him know when I think he has gone off the reservation, which is often enough. There are some that take it to another level, which they must have their own reasons.

He at least provides something for discussion, be it good or bad.

No hate here for any poster. His novels and senseless predictions irritate most folks, as well as his bashing of Hat when he usually doesn't know what he is talking about. Actually, he provides some good information such as this thread regarding recruiting.

Thanks guys.

I do write longer posts than most people.

I also like stirring the pot sometimes.

I should not criticize some posters on here for personal attacks and engage in them myself.

Most of the people on here who attack me personally are people who at some point provoked me and who I mocked. Some of them cannot write (see my signature which was a quote from a guy during an argument) and some of them cannot read (calling a page long post a novel indicates that twitter and calvin and hobbes is all some on here can take).

I love the Vols, and I love having a free place to talk about them with fans who are as passionate as I am.

I predicted that TN would make the Elite 8 last year but I thought we would have a better record than we did in the regular season.

I cannot stand the Big 10 in basketball and lots of people were made when I argued that the SEC was better.

I thought an LSU upset of Florida was very possible and I said so, but I also thought that Richt had lost his team and we would beat the UGA team in football that just crushed us to dust.

When you make a lot of predictions some of them come true. It is frustrating when you try to give factual arguments to back up an assertion and someone else attacks your predictions record, particularly someone who does not make any predictions.

This year I think the basketball team is headed for great not good things. I think we have a top 5 schedule difficulty wise and I think we will win early even with lots of youth. If we can beat Pitt on the road, TN will gain a lot of respect as a program. The teams we have a chance to beat represent a group that should not fall apart later in the year (see Charlotte last year) but that should give us a high seeding in the tournament if we can get enough wins in a VERY tough SEC east.

As a passionate follower of all things involving the Vols, I understand and have respect for another passionate follower. If you would focus on including factual basis for your other posts as you obviously do research for your recruiting updates, you would have much less negative response. All opinions should be respected, but opinions aren't factual.

BVF,

Sometimes I post facts, sometimes I post opinion. I am not a journalist, I am not a pundit. I am a fan who enjoys writing on a message board. I also admit when I make a mistake which is atypical here from the subset of those of us who make predictions and present opinion regularly in the basketball forum.

I really enjoy reading Wisevol and Unimane, who take time to write very well done pieces. I also enjoy interviews of famous coaches by Hatvol. I despise condescension and personal attacks spewing out all the time from certain people especially when they are wrong.

Person A "Scotty Hopson will suck this year because he is lazy and unmotivated and a waste of talent."

Person B "Scotty Hopson is an outstanding talent who seems to benefit from the presence of hardworking freshman Tobias Harris in many ways. He should have a very strong season."

Scott Hopson goes for 22ppg, 8 rpg and 6 apg for a full season.

Person B "Scotty Hopson is awesome and you were wrong about him person A."

Person A "I never said he was not good, I said he lacked motivation which he seems to have found so I was not wrong."

Person B "You were wrong about Hopson, also wrong about Player X about whom you said idiotic comment Y"

Person A "You are on ignore. I need to read more drivel from a Pearl slurper like I need a hole in my head. You know nothing about basketball."

That has been my experience on Volnation for the most part. There really is only one person who says retarded and false things over and over and when they are proven to be demonstrably false they cannot admit they made a mistake. For some reason the naked emperor is complimented on his fine clothing by a chorus of 4 or so of the most active people on the board.

Maymon is not fat and is not lazy. Those were two assertions that were made. One is easy enough to disprove, the other is somewhat subjective but hearing his hustle described in practice it would appear that unless everyone else on the team fits the description of lazy in the mind of the person who called Maymon that, they were wrong about his work ethic as well.

I'm just ready for basketball season, so that we can debate something other than VN gang affiliation.

My fantasy basketball league (ran by a UK fan who happened to post this haiku geeked me out to the point I felt I must share) has a haiku contest every season, and it is going to be hard to beat the following, but I will try my best...

Cal's smarter than Pearl
Sweaty arse jew should have known
Snitches get stitches

I am UT through and through, but I have to admit... pretty good haiku
