2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

No way. It's big that he didn't even include North Carolina, hometown Memphis, or even Duke for that matter. Like the article states, I believe one of those three will play a role but I don't think as big of a role now. According to him, those three aren't recruiting him as hard as the others listed and maybe that means a lot to him. It's good for us to get in early and establish a great relationship before he blew up anymore. I think this guy would be a huge get but still think it comes down between UT and Florida.

If its between UT and Florida I really like our chances. Proximity is a huge deal to him, he withdrew from USA team because he wanted to go home, he doesn't like being far away. His sister being at UT would be a huge comfort as they're very close to one another. His parents are regular visitors to Knoxville for football and basketball games, so obviously that wouldn't change.

I really feel good about Nichols.

I agree. I hate his parents have Memphis ties but I'm not sure their in full press mode for him. Seems like they would be a clear cut favorite considering your parents went to school there and you grew up watching the Tigers.

His dad went to Tennessee and mom Memphis iirc, and his twin sisters at Tennessee.

I wonder how many other similar players Florida is in on? I usually watch other rival schools recruiting but I'm far faaaaar behind in keeping up right now lol. Like with Stokes, that's the only thing that made me nervous about his recruitment. Arkansas had great needs for the post so I'm wondering if Florida has as much of a need for him as we do as far as playing time is concerned.

Reading a little too much into that :eek:lol:

Perhaps. I hope so, but I see no way to take any positivity out of being added in at the end following the tag, "probably". I guess it beats no mention at all if we're appealing to the "glass half-full" crowd.

He then mentions Tennessee right away as one of the staffs he has the best relationship with. Without hearing the way he said it, it's a bit hard to really try and figure out how he meant the probably, if he meant it any way at all.

I agree. Intent is very difficult to determine in text.

I spoke to him at the LeBron James Academy. He said the plan, right now, is to wait until after his high school season to decide. He'll cut his list in about six weeks to a more manageable number. He's a nice kid to deal with.

His sister was there with a Tennessee shirt, btw.

Yea that's been the plan for about the last month, he was originally going to decide early. Whether stokes stays or goes could be a reason why.

His sister does attend Tennessee so...

These things can fluctuate so I just wanted to get the current thought. I asked him about the pull of his twin sister at Tennessee, M33M with Florida, and Leslie McDonald selling UNC.He siad that he just tries to keep his circle tight, but, in the end, he'll have to make his own decision.

He played well overall. One McDonald's voter said that, right now, he'd likely give him his vote. He was teamed up with Andrew Wiggins.

Being a Memphis area resident, I have a strong interest in Austin. I don't see him as Memphis or Ky. player - not his style. Too much street ball. IMO it is Duke or UT, with Fla. third. I think we have a really strong chance with him and the kid from Newbern.

?

He said that McDonald came back to Briarcrest recently and tried to help him know what he needed to do in order to be ready for college and what it was like at UNC.

Thanks. Haven't heard that. Can't blame McDonald for wanting out of Memphis. I don't think UNC is a major player at the moment though.

Was watching the team USA exhibition last night and they were talking about how coach K was using the experience (obviously) to his advantage to recruit and was at the Lebron James Academy. It's not bad enough that Duke is one of the top schools in the country but he's also coaching the best team in the world in Team USA lol. Hard to compete with that.

I'll be surprised if Nichols ends up at duke.

I was looking around and asking about his sister and it's good to know that they are really close and both have a lot of friends that go to UT. I know. Sort of pointless and obvious that he's close with his sister but a lot of sibilings aren't close and every little bit helps ;)

I may be wrong but I believe I also read where his father attended UT as well.

Something interesting is Kentucky actually showed interest really early in Nichols and then either backed off or wasn't as persistant as the other schools. I think UNC is coming to the party too late but who knows.

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Some circles here in Memphis are now saying Nichols prefers the roster makeup of Duke over UT. Don't know exactly what that means, but I am guessing the level of players Duke gets must be a part of this thinking. I still think it is down to UT and Duke. Cuonzo has a lot of work ahead of him for Austin!:yes:
