I still cannot find anything on this, not even a simple statement that it's being discussed by the SEC.

I know...not the most informative of threads. Just checking to see if anyone has heard/read anything on how future postseason tournaments will be held with there being 14 teams in the league now.

It will be exactly the same as it was done this past season. SEC teams are seeded 1-14 according to where they finish the regular season. That was the whole point of getting rid of the divisions.

I have seen no statement from the SEC unless I missed it. I would speculate that they will go with a 4 day format. The 1 and 2 seeds will get byes in the first round while the 8/9, 7/10, 6/11, 5/12, 4/13 and 3/14 square off. JMO of course.

It's not that simple. If 12 teams play in the first round, that's six games. So, do they somehow squeeze in three sessions on Thursday? Or do they start earlier and have two 3-game sessions? Or, do they add a Wednesday night session?

That's what I'm curious about. They need to either not invite the 13th and 14th teams in the standings or make a big change to the structure of the event.

Actually, I think there would be a small change because we are uneven now. I'd imagine a BigEast type where the top 2 get a bye or you could have the bottom 4 have a play in game to face the 5th and 6th seeds.

Oh crap - you are correct. Six games the first day won't fly. Honestly I have no idea.

Uneducated guess. Bottom 4 play in on Wednesday night. Then just like the old format.

Sorry, I did not consider that half of 14 is 7, an odd number, which brings problems. No clue what's going to happen.

I doubt they would hold a 11vs14 and 12vs13 session and keep the four byes to the quarters. Attendance to the Wednesday session would be very poor, and I will be very annoyed if the price of the SECT explodes again just to add two weak games.

But, you offered a realistic guess, so I'll do the same.

Only two byes to the quarters. 3vs14 and 4vs13 on Wednesday night. The 3 and 4 seeds would be strong enough that some fans might get into town early enough to watch the Wednesday session. It would also give the 3 and 4 the advantage of having Thursday off before playing again on Friday. And, it would add the small intrigue of one of the bottom two teams scooping the day-off advantage by pulling a big upset. The format would be the same, except that the 3 and 4 would need to beat a bottom team on Wednesday to earn its "bye" to Friday's quarters.

I know it's unlikely, but I'd rather them have one large 6-game session that tips off at 9am on Thursday. 9, 1130, 2pm, 430, 7, and 930. Let people walk in and out on their ticket stubs. Or, at least allow one re-entry per stub. Put two separate bar codes on the ticket.

I am just surprised that nothing has been publicly said about this. Kinda shows how important basketball is, compared to football. When TAMU and Mizzou were in the process of joining, public statements were all about how the football schedule would be affected. Well, on the undercard, there is an annual basketball tournament, whether the KY coach likes it or not.

Honestly I don't like the idea of 4 byes either but the conference may try to protect its top teams. I actually like the idea you gave of the 3 and 4 teams playing Wednesday and thus giving them a extra day rest. It would definately make the battle for 4 and 5 in conference standings mean something late in the season.

Not sure I'd want to be a top team with two byes in a conference tourney. Sure hasn't worked well for the BE teams lol.

All I know is, I'm excited the tourney goes back to Nashville next year. Bridgestone Arena is a fun place. Hopefully my Vols are playing on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!! If not, at least Bridgestone Arena is still a fun place and I like the drive much better than Atlanta and all their construction mess.

Will probably go next year. Fun town.

When it's in Nashville, my advice is simple - get your tickets early.

If you finish 13th or 14th in a 14-team conference, you probably don't deserve a shot at winning the conference championship. Take the top 12 and use this year's format.
