2013 SEC Upset Watch...

The defense should be better, and that should help the offense some.
It will still take time, but we should be more balanced on both sides of the ball.

2012 we gave up 30+ points a game and scored 30+ points a game.

In 2013 I think we score around 25 ppg and give up around 22 ppg...
I think we will have a lot of grind out games, we will be in a lot more than last year just by shear determination.

we should be worried about next year guys - drink the kool-aid all y'all want, but we have new offensive personnel AND scheme - plus the same old slow defense. Fans expecting us to be better than last year should temper their expectations b/c we will not have the offense to mask the defense.

See I disagree and here is why: That same "slow" defense in a 4-3 scheme in 2011 allowed 15 less points per game. Had they allowed at the same rate last year with a 4-3 instead of that 3-4, and we scored at the same rate we did last year offensively, we would have been 9-3 in the regular season. Granted that is hypothetical, but we have the personnel for a 4-3 and did not have the personnel for 3-4. So I wouldn't be surprised to see our Defense return to near, if not better than 2011 form. Offense has some question marks, but it's the same great O-Line... so I think we will do better this year than most expect :)

I think that is an excellent analysis and prognostication for the upcoming season.

We picked up speed in recruiting this year it should help produce on the field. We have Jones, Foreman, Johnson and Sutton. One or two of these guys should produce...

We should be weary of this game

The first year in Petrino's system is difficult on players, he went 5-7 his fist year at Arkansas. Not to mention it's early in the year, on the road, and he will be working with inferior athletes. We will pancake them.

SEC upsets to keep an eye on in 2013 - SEC Blog - ESPN

Tennessee is mentioned to lookout for W. Kentucky...

The author is "hoping" that Petrino's offensive game plan will be to come into Knoxville, get up a few quick scores and lead by 14 or more, catch UT off guard and have them abandon the playbook and play catch up the remainder of the game. Good teams with good opposing coaches did to CPF for a better part of a decade

Their also taking into consideration that UT has key losses at several positions and looking at the remaining roster, there is no "standout" player...yet.

Honestly, it's wishful thinking to believe WKU can come into town and beat UT but stranger things have happened. With the difference in talent level and even with UT's talent level not up to standards, this game probably will not resemble the last time they played but it will not be much closer either.

I'm 100% positive that if Butch Jones had taken over the coaching in the forth qtr. of that Mercer game the Vols would of come out on top. He could of won it with attitude alone.

Seriously?

What would the score had been had Jones taken over in the 3rd inning? :ermm:

We go back to the 4-3days where we have personnel to play better. Our players didnt just start sucking worse on D just because. They changed to a scheme they werent recruited to play and coached by a guy who had no business being a DC.

My boss is a WKU grad. Very, very confident about the Toppers coming into Neyland and taking care of business. Feels they have a good team coming back and Petrino puts them over the top. Said "with the state of your program...." and some such crap as that.

Told him to slow his freakin roll, UT has plenty of talent to whip their arses still, challenged him to a small wager.

People seem to be having a hard time comprehending the difference between saying a team is on upset watch and predicting an upset

Wow, what a bold analysis. May I ask how you came up with those averages?
