Uh, what? Where does it say anything about him reclassifying?

I was wrong here, I was thinking Oak Hill was a prep school so it would mean another year. Based on your reaction, I am way off base.

No, oak hill academy, it's one of the premier high school basketball schools in the country. Usually their whole starting 5 goes D1, they're incredible. Look at their alum RS absolutely ridiculous.

Thornwell will be going there, and be playing all over the country. This guys recruitment has absolutely blown up, and is only going to get bigger. Talk of UK heckling involved is already starting.

As I mentioned above, I don't like our chances wih him anymore, he wants to play in the league and as quickly as possible, I doubt he sees Tennessee as his best route for that. I am however pleased that given time to evaluate it appears CCM can spot talent. Thornwell, Nichols, hubbs, Crawford, Johnson and I'm sure more I'm forgetting all have blown up on the recruiting scene, and we were some of the first high major schools to contact them. Hopefully that helps us with them, but if nothing else it makes me feel good about the staffs ability to evaluate players.

Also, Schuyler Rimmer is now the #20 C accordingly scout, they only go top 100 overall, but he'd probably be in their top 150 looking at it, so that's another good example of the staffs evaluation.

I hope you are phrophetic about the evaluation ability of this staff. I would love for some of the under-rated recruits he has brought in to blow up while on campus. I gives me great hope for Chievous, Edwards, and Reese, that he was in on these high school guys so early and was right about them.

I feel good about Edwards, chievous is at a position that's packed so while I think by junior year he may be very valuable I don't expect much anytime soon, and Reese I'm still unsure about. I don't see it, but if he turns out to he an under the radar guy who blows up then awesome. You can't teach size and length and he has both, do if he improves his game he's a matchup nightmare, a 6'9" SF.

Not sure if that hurts us or helps us.

I wouldn't expect it to help our efforts as their national schedule and prestige will only give Thornwell more exposure to other schools with more to offer than Tennessee. I would prefer him to fly under the radar in South Carolina.

I have been very unimpressed by his recruiting so far.....I hope some of these guys start looking like true players this year or some of these guys you mention start committing so I will get that warm fuzzy feeling inside about our program....I hope you and the pursue fan is right about his evaluations bc if not we will be hurting in 2014.

I think we've been over it before, but I don't know that unimpressed with his first 2 classes is fair, that means you expected more. If you were EXPECTING MORE then you simply were settin yourself up for disappointment.

As I've been over, he walked into a situation which is not ideal for inmediate recruiting success. Taking everything into account, which I don't feel like detailing again, he didn't do that bad.

His first class included a top 150 player, something Pearl didn't pull in his first class. His second class included a 5* top 15 player out of Memphis, somewhere our previous staff was unable to pull players from, let alone a 5*. All things considered, his first 2 classes have lived up to my expectations, an quite honestly probably slightly exceeded them.

Now, this is heading into year 3 recruiting, the black cloud is no longer an issue, and he has had the 2-3 year window which is important in establishing relationships with recruits, so this is the first class id say expectations should be raised. My expectations are we land some good talented guys, and have a top 25 class, those are my expectations for this class. If we miss on many, and end up with more Reese's, washpuns, and chievous then I'll begin to worry, but at this point he's right on track where I thought he would be.

"Me and (Tennessee) coach (Cuonzo) Martin, we're cool, we're close," Thornwell told InsideTennessee last month. "He's been recruiting me since he got the job, probably two weeks after. But, he's a good coach. He did a good job for his first year here at Tennessee.

"I like the way they play, they get after it, pick-and-roll style. They let you play. They don't really hold you back. They play that Flex offense, Motion offense. So, they really let you do what you can do."

Now that i'm posting it in the right thread lol.

He's recently made unofficial visits to Clemson and South Carolina and was at Florida State this past week. Thornwell adds that Tennessee is on his list for a visit this summer, but with a hectic personal schedule, he's not yet firmed up a date for that trip. "My AAU coach is going to set us a visit to get to Knoxville," Thornwell offered. "I talk to coach (Kent) Williams a lot. He's really one of the assistant coaches that I probably have the best relationship with. I've known him now for over a year, since they first came to Tennessee really. "It seems like a good program, on the way up with coach Martin and what they got done. They're one of the schools I want to learn more about. I like the coaching staff there."- VQ

Rob Lewis seems to think UT isn't really a factor for Thornwell as of right now. We'll see if he still visits this summer.

I like Thornwell. Reminds me of a better JP Prince.

Interesting development, could be a result of king and hubbs interest in Tennessee?

Possible. Also I think the staff would prefer Markel Crawford too. At most, we are taking two wings (especially since JWIII can play some wing), so it might just be a numbers thing. We know we are taking a PG and most likely two bigs. That leaves either one or two spots for the wings.

Oak Hill shooting guard Sindarius Thornwell is down to two schools —N.C. State and South Carolina...FWIW. This is from Zagsblog.

His recruitment really slowed down...there was some stuff I heard about attitude is one reason we cooled. Would make sense as to why no other big boys jumped in.

Yes it did. He was considering Georgia and Oh State as his other 2 finalists. I will say USCjr bound. Frank Martin will proof to be good for SC if he can get the players to come there

Notice that when Hubbs started to warm up on us he started to cool on us?

Off the board to USCjr

Good luck to him, will be fun to watch Hubbs vs. Thornwell for the next year or two.
