2014, A test of patience

Tennessee's 2014 season will likely be a test of patience. | SportsonEarth.com : Matt Brown Article

This article seems pretty accurate, semi depressing, but realistic about expectations for the short and long term. I think it also shows in its own slight way that nationally, people are starting to recognize us again at least in recruiting.

This article hits the nail on the head.

The longer you are down, the less history matters. Both ga tech and ole miss are former southern powerhouses that are a shell of what they once were. Both were mentioned in the same breath as Bama and Tennessee.
We have been down longer than any traditional Big Six program in the last 50 years. Vandy,Missouri and ole miss fans consider us a lock for a win for them. Kentucky fans think we are a toss up.
Butch needs patience and an opportunity to unite this fan base. This could be a tough year.

The rest of SEC knows the infusion of talent that is coming in. Our top 44 - 2 deep on both sides of the ball will be as good as top programs in 2 years and significantly better than the bottom half.... Look the F out

Above average article. But I do expect 6-6 or better this season. Also playing tough squads like Utah State, Ark State and OK early will pay off big time as the season progresses. It will get us over the hump on Vandy, UK and Mizzou and for an upset or two along the way.

Side note: is there a more generic sounding name for a sports website? sportsonearth.com? lol

Test of patience, yes. But I still expect a few flashes of greatness as a sign of things to come, i.e.: An upset over Oklahoma/Alabama/Florida/Georgia or all of the above.

Playing tough squads also means playing starters longer, getting guys hurt, and not playing your young guys as much.

I still think this article speaks to those predicting 9+ wins this year or something, I just don't see it. People need not be calling for Jones's head this year even if we go 5-7 again, if it happens so be it, but next year will be a rude awakening for plenty of teams playing us.

I don't catch every post, but I don't recall any one on VN predicting 9 wins. I believe that most reasonable Vol Fans would be happy just seeing improvement in all areas of our program and seeing it show on the field.
6-6 is not unreasonable to expect at this point.
I just don't see how people can say 2015 will be the year we win the east, yet 2014....we remain 4-8/5-7. That's a pretty big jump, guess anything is possible.
GBO! Win or loose

Sorry... It does not take that long to flip your team with great talent

Thank you

Our fans act as if all of these signees will pan out. THERE WILL BE a BUSTS! One highly recruited prospect, counted on to be a starter this fall is showing signs! Unbridled enthusiasm is great until it becomes counter productive in the form of calling for coaches to be fired because unrealistic expectations were not met. We may win 6 to 8 games, but I wouldn't be shocked if we won 4. Either way, it doesn't change my opinion of butch. We are razor thin with depth and if we get a bunch of olinemen injured, we are in big trouble. It will take three to five years to recruit the depth needed to compete every week.:hi:

Winning the east and winning the league are two different things. I think in 2015 we can win 8 or 9......9 -3 has won the east before.

Has the 2015 schedule been released yet? What recruits will be playing 2015? Where did we end up in recruiting on signing day for 2015? Wait a minute...???

There will be busts.. However the pool of talent is significant higher at all positions that is being recruited meaning the overall positions will be better and close to SEC elite. Look at our LB recruits as example;

Bates
Weatherd
Bryant
Creamer
Berry
Smith
Cherry

Elite speed at that position....We beat out current elite SEC programs...Therefore they play for us and not them

To me the bottom line is we are headed in the right direction with the quality of players buying into Jones' system. The biggest problems we have is essentially replacing the offensive and defensive lines! Good news is we have quality players on the roster but experience means a lot especially at the SEC level!

The next question mark is can Jones and staff coach at this level? Judging from last year, with the lack of depth and talent, I would say this staff is promising at this point.

Folks it took Majors four or five years to turn around Tennessee after the Battle era. It is simply going to take some time when you consider the strength of our schedule.

With the above said, we should get to 6-6 this year and go bowling! If not, we will continue building and head in the right direction! Worst thing we can do is throw Jones under the bus, we NEED A COACH TO STAY AROUND FOR A WHILE ... If not, we will continue to remain at the bottom of the SEC!

GO VOLS!
