2014, A test of patience

Playing tough squads also means playing starters longer, getting guys hurt, and not playing your young guys as much.

True, however I think the first two games are tough but ones we pull away mid to late 3rd quarter. That will get the greenhorns some valuable play time.

No way.....no way. We aren't Tennessee of the mid 90s. These two teams are better than the recent cannon fodder brought to Knoxville. I think we'll win but they will be 4th quarter games.

I don't catch every post, but I don't recall any one on VN predicting 9 wins. I believe that most reasonable Vol Fans would be happy just seeing improvement in all areas of our program and seeing it show on the field.
6-6 is not unreasonable to expect at this point.
I just don't see how people can say 2015 will be the year we win the east, yet 2014....we remain 4-8/5-7. That's a pretty big jump, guess anything is possible.
GBO! Win or loose

I think 9 wins is certainly possible (25%). But we will need to catch the breaks like we did in 98. Last year, for all our suckiness mid-season, we were two breaks away from 7-5.

I fully expect to win Utah St, Ark St, Chatt, Vandy, Mizzou and UK. Some of those will be challenging but we should win them. I view FL as a toss up with so many of their players coming off injuries and learning a new offensive scheme. Hard to say what UGA and USCe will be with their losses and coming off injury but Richt has opened the door for us the last few years and this year he may just pay for it. USCe brings back great talent with few starters gone from last year. But those losses were huge: Shaw, Quarles, Clowney and a starting WR, CB. Ole Miss should be better but they risk losing their best for discipline issues. Hopefully we get the sucky OK (TCU, WV & TX) and not the one that destroyed bama. And bama is riding on one of the longest losing streaks in the SEC!!!

But could have easily lost to Carolina or south alabama.

Tennessee's 2014 season will likely be a test of patience. | SportsonEarth.com : Matt Brown Article

This article seems pretty accurate, semi depressing, but realistic about expectations for the short and long term. I think it also shows in its own slight way that nationally, people are starting to recognize us again at least in recruiting.

I hope everyone who is a Vol fan reads this and understand this really is a process and we are doing the right things that need to be done. In College it has and will always be about the Jimmy's and Joe's and Butch is producing, period. Just like in golf, get the fundamentals correct and practice like hell. We will see significant progress on the field but the schedule has again spanked our butts. If we weren't recruiting and signing the right players, if the talk wasn't good, or we weren't in on a lot of the best player's in the nation, you could gripe. Jump on the bandwagon it is going to be fun but not necessarily next year.

Seriously...do you even follow football?
It's not a shut out type of sport. Anything can will happen during the whole of any season. It is not XBOX

He said we could have been 7-5 and I said we could have been 3-9. There were four games that could have went either way and we split.:good!:

Offseason guys, we have no idea what will happen. Injuries, under achieving, and overall not judging the talent of a team could happen to some of our opponents. We don't know what will happen. No way anyone would have predicted Mizzou to do what they did. It will be ok guys. Just let it play out.

Has the 2015 schedule been released yet? What recruits will be playing 2015? Where did we end up in recruiting on signing day for 2015? Wait a minute...???

2015 is pretty much flip the SEC game locations, change out Ole Miss for a game vs Arkansas at Neyland, and then the following games:

vs UAB Sept. 5 (LP Field)
vs Oklahoma Sept. 12
vs North Texas Nov. 7

Plus an FCS team to later be named

The SEC game order is most likely to be the same order as it is this season, now that they've moved off of "transition scheduling years" (which ended in 2013).

I think CBJ has one of the most effective practice regimens in football. The spontaneity of going from passing/running drills to special teams to goal line stands to "The Ring" keep players involved mentally and physically. S&C has also been much more effective. Gone are the days of "pencil whipping" S&C sessions. CBJ has the players puking on the field and in the gym as they are being challenged as never before. It's definitely not the World Class tacos making them sick!

That South Alabama game was a mess.

We won by 7, had to stop them on 4th and goal from our own 8 (ending like a 7 minute drive they were having) at the very end of the game, and this happened:

No doubt! Just noticed where gators had TE transfer and UGA had FR TE just up and quit football altogether. UGA has had at least three transfers this off season and a Senior starter OT almost left the team...We could have used him.

Not to mention DGB getting the boot from Mizzou and LBs getting into a lot of trouble at Ole Miss.

Thank you

Our fans act as if all of these signees will pan out. THERE WILL BE a BUSTS! One highly recruited prospect, counted on to be a starter this fall is showing signs! Unbridled enthusiasm is great until it becomes counter productive in the form of calling for coaches to be fired because unrealistic expectations were not met. We may win 6 to 8 games, but I wouldn't be shocked if we won 4. Either way, it doesn't change my opinion of butch. We are razor thin with depth and if we get a bunch of olinemen injured, we are in big trouble. It will take three to five years to recruit the depth needed to compete every week.:hi:

Being a new Vol, there is still some hope for Blair. His main issues were getting into shape and speed. I think if he gets in shape, that should take care of the speed issue. Also having a better understanding of playbook will help Blair to be faster in play execution...Plus he now has competition.

So will Mosely, Sawyers or Robertson be reassigned to OL for Depth?

Yes, we always view this year's opponents off of last year. But they are different teams an we don't take that into consideration. There are so many factors that will come up that we can't predict. Very hard to tell the future, all I'm saying is I don't think it will be as bad as people think. Personally I think the end of schedule will be pretty easy. I think ky sucks, Vandy is headed back to earth in a hurry under mason and their piss poor recruiting classes, Mizzou I think loses way too much and they haven't recruited very well to replace talent lost.

I'm expecting 6-6. If we could win the bowl game, our recruiting will take off.

I'll give you SC (though we clearly outplayed them for 3 out of 4 quarters) but S Bama was a game in which we got cocky and lost focus. If we keep our foot on the gas instead of screwing around we win by 5 td's. We were a 6-6/7-5 level team last year that had a murderous schedule and got unlucky.
