2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 is back! [w/video]

Powered by Chevrolet's 7.0-liter LS7 small block V8 (also found in the C6 Corvette), the 2014 Camaro Z/28 looks to offer massive track performance above and beyond the already capable 1LE.

Chevy hasn't released official power ratings yet, saying only that the Z/28 will deliver "at least 500 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque" – the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA found in the ZL1 dispenses 580 horsepower, so the track-focused Z/28 probably won't be the most powerful Camaro on offer.
The Camaro was refreshed for all models.

It looks ok.

I'm not a big fan of the unpainted plastic on the rear ...or the rear taillights.

I like the idea of the z-28, but I hate that there is no stereo. I get it, weight savings and what not, but even the mighty integra type-r had a radio. I bet some dealer will offer it as an option.

Speaking of which, taillight configuration is reminiscent of the integra.

And still managed the highest power-to-weight ratio of a production car until supplanted by the M3, IIRC!

This thread is now officially about the Integra

An interesting and little-publicized fact about the 1995–2000 DC2 Type R is that Honda lost money on every single vehicle sold, even though extra dealer markups sometimes made for excessive dealer profit. Honda produced the DC2 Type R for homologation purposes to meet FIA certification of the motor and the chassis changes to make the car more competitive in N-series and World Cup racing. The details required, hand tooling in early versions and finishing the product through the use of various small fabrication shops in Japan made for increased costs in manufacture that could not be made up in the list price of the vehicles. Honda (and Acura in the US) deemed the car important for the marque's image and important for the racing programmes of the era, and the parent company therefore accepted a financial net loss on each vehicle sold.

It has been acclaimed by motoring journalists world-wide, including Evo magazine, who named the Type R 'the greatest front-wheel-drive performance car ever.'[1] and TheAutoChannel.com who also named it 'the best handling front-wheel drive car ever.'[2]

....so Chevy has finally announced the base price for the Z/28.

75k.

2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 to start at $75,000 - Autoblog

Makes no damn sense. The stingray with the z51 will be cheaper, prettier, lighter, better equipped AND more track capable.

Two notes, holy shat, 305's at the front!? That's gotta have a terrible turning circle. Also I think the carbon ceramic brakes should be an option. On Porsches they are about a 7-10k option. The z-28 sounds a bit better at 65 than 75k.

grasping at straws they are.

How so? I don't get it, I would not buy it if I had the money, but I am happy to see that they are pumping out performance cars. Same deal with the scion frs. I would not buy one, but I am glad they are making it.

I've also learned that me not understanding does not make it a bad idea. I thought the idea of the iPad was dumb when it launched. I'll be damned if I didn't want one a year later.

you could buy a stock camaro and make it a 10 second car for that kinda money. Hell, I didnt have 75k in the last 7 second car I had. No way they will sell many of them for that price.

Why would you spend that kinda money when you can buy a GT500 for less and outrun it backwards.

This is a track car though, not a drag car. This will lunch the gt500 on a race track. Still silly expensive.

I suppose it's comparable to the Cobra R, but I can't get over 75k being the base price.

I'd rather have the Vette and I don't even like Vette's.

Mind you ford won't bother releasing lap times of the crucible of road courses, the nordschleife, but unofficial tests peg the gt500 at a bit under 7:40. The z-28 runs 7:37.

Enough to justify the extra money? Probably not, but around a "real" race track the z-28 should be faster.
