2015-16 Men's NC Game Thread

Ah yes.....never attached to the Phillies

True story...

I'm a Rays fan and happened to be in Philly that Christmas with my now wife. We were at a bar and these guys asked where we're from. We explained we live in FL but Kathy is from Philly. She proceeded to tell the guys that I'm a Rays fan.

So I congratulated them on the WS and being a smartass I said, "It's probably good Philly won the WS because the parade in Tampa/St. Pets would have sucked because it would have been between 2-4 so the old people could get to the early bird specials."

This guy stands up and says, "Hey! I'll have you know only 2 people died during the Phillies parade." I don't think I've ever laughed so hard.

I really do love S. Philly. The people, the food,...all but the winters.

'08 World Series...but relax. Just having fun with Philly.

I lived in philly during this time and it was crazy when they won. Then a couple of years later they get Oswalt, Halladay and Co and you would have thought it was the 27 Yankees....those damn fans are nuts. Do not miss philly at all

That was just a great game. I changed my pick 5 minutes before the game to Nova, was great to see Rollie in the crowd.

There were 36 fouls called last night (20 on UNC and 16 on Villanova). I don't think it was a physical enough game to justify that many calls. There was some contact following defensive rebounds that could have been played on. I wouldn't say UNC got hosed but more of those went against them than Villanova.

Having said that, it was the best finish to any final four game that I've ever seen. The last 1:13 is as exciting as college basketball gets and the last two shots were awesome.

There were a LOT of cheap contact calls on UNC that were not called on 'Nova, including the last call on UNC with 25 seconds or so left that was a totally absurd call--replay showed there was virtually no contact. Without that BS call UNC might have had a chance to win it on their last possession, with a 2 or 3, instead of having to make a crazy three just to tie.

Saying this without addressing the bs call on the previous possession that touched the Carolina players hands before going out of bounds, giving the ball to Carolina?

That was very hard to see in real time although perhaps it could have been reviewed? I'm not sure. It's fair to say that the officials called a very tight game last night without a lot of touch fouls that were not game appropriate.

Gotta hand it to 'Nova, hit clutch shots all night. Ultimately came down to nailing buzzer beaters at the end of each half.
Unreal.

UNC always struggles with out of conference officiating when they play a good team in the tournament. It's harder to win when you aren't allowed to foul with impunity.

I thought the refs called it close to get rid of the initial chippiness between the teams in the first half.

I thought they called it tight the whole game and I found myself getting irritated with the officials at times (and I hate UNC and their systematic academic fraud history as much as anybody). I'm not saying that UNC was screwed but the ref's got in the way of a great game last night. The incredible plays made in the last minute probably bails them out though. That is what we will remember.

...the caliber of play last night did not warrant 36 foul calls though. Jesus Christ.

A buddy of mine was in Houston last night, (huge UNC fan) his first Title game he's ever gone to. His only Duke/UNC game he's been to, was the Rivers buzzer beater. He shall be called The KOD. I honestly feel bad for the guy.
