There has to be an OT out there that we are after. What about JUCO's? Maybe get a solid transfer or a late bloomer. I just can not understand why we are not hearing any news on this subject.

It sucks, but we put many, many eggs in the Drew Richmond basket. It takes time to get back in on guys we might have backed off of or to get in with guys we are starting to recruit late. This news from Burrell sounds promising and we aren't giving up on Richmond. We have 4 OLine committed, possibly a 5th depending on how you look at Dylan Jackson. The situation is not ideal, but it is far from dire. CBJ is not going to compromise his standards though. If he finds a diamond OT in the rough that meets the criteria and wants to be a Vol? Awesome sauce. If he doesn't? We will role with what we have. Mahoney is a good OLine coach and will get these guys going, even if his recruiting is subpar. That's what Tommy Thigpen is for. These OLine need to be redshirting anyway to get to the size necessary to compete and we will have take luxury next year with us only losing Crowder on the line.

To summarize: It's gonna be ok! :dance2:

I agree. I believe Butch has showed his ability to recruit elite skill, and this year got some DL. But we must must must start landing elite OL/DL consistently.

Does Moseley transition into OL possibly an OG?
Not if he is only going to be depth. He's the very kind of player you want in the trenches, at DT, when we are trying to defend power running attacks, like UGA had with Gurley.

Put him and KMac side by side (Tutt will be in the mix, too), and Gurley would have to try and make a living running outside the tackles. We could have shut his act down yesterday, if we had DT's that could clog their gaps. Instead, we have to try and use movement techniques to offset our size disadvantage.

Jackson will be back for his Senior year and Robertson will have a full season under his belt, so I'm starting to lean toward us not moving Mosley.

Our defensive coaches haven't minced words in their concern for our lack of size at DT. With Mosley, KMac and Tuttle, that problem is fittin to get solved real quick.

These OL threads make me want to completely burn 2012 out of my memory. I still cannot believe the level of ignorance that was displayed.

Yeah, 2012 still hurts. I wouldn't call it ignorance though. I call it total incompetence. And if any NCAA institution is foolish enough to give the Dallas Cowboy's receivers coach another shot at a head coaching job, their athletic director should be beaten with many wet banana peels.

Toss in Sawyers, who I'm guessing will be at 315+ by next season and Quay, who now appears to be closing in on 300, and the future looks much better for the Vols in the middle of the DL.

The more I watch Jancek's defense develop over the season the more I think this guy may actually be one of the brightest defensive minds in the game. Not only do we play 4 DTs all game, none of them weigh over 300 pounds. Sawyer a is the only 300LB+ DT we have that will play, and he's not playing much. Size isn't everything. You need guys who are big but also have leverage. KMac, Tuttle, Quay, and Mosely all have great feet. Go watch any of those guys play and they all move their feet very well. KMac will get into trouble early trying to over power his man. He has terrible hand placement sometimes, but he also has the most potential of any DT we have had since Henderson. Coach strip has done an unbelievable job teaching our guys leverage and technique. We are almost always slanting our d-line inside to control gaps. We are even effective in the stopping the run in bear fronts with 3 DL down. Our defense is remarkable. We are very well coached, very disciplined, and very fun to watch. Also, with the influx of DTs we are getting I believe Mixon can become a hybrid DE/DT. Mixon is one of my favorite players on this team. He has a nonstop motor, and I believe he can become a Malik Jackson type player for us.
