2016 Recruiting

I think the reason people get the sky is falling worry is that we used to never have this problem even if they came from far away.

You are correct, if this was any team, football, men's basketball, etc. fans would be concerned. That is the nature of the beast. Concern does not necessarily mean the thought process is, "OMG, the sky is falling."' I am concerned but certainly will not lose any sleep over the situation. If a fan has the ideology that there are blue skies on the way, then so be it. I applaud that fan and hope he or she is correct. In the end, no matter what any of our opinions are, everything will play itself out, all we can hope for is that by hook or crook the Lady Vols make it back to the top of the mountain.

I honestly think the less players Holly has, the better. She can't place the proper combination on the floor on her own. So maybe four Five-star calibre players and a few hard workers who don't mind backup roles would work better for our current HC. Compare the first game when she only had six players and last night's game with 10 available bodies. Enough said.

I personally like Holly and knew her while attending UTK. Her playing intensity was far superior to her coaching and teaching style. She's better suited to being an assistant coach.

It's all good, however, because our next head coach was born with the fire in his belly. Hello, Tyler!

The only position we really need players is the post. We have guards out the ying yang. From 2016, the top forward and top post stayed close to home. It's pretty harsh criticism that the coaching didn't compel a player or two to move hundreds of miles to play basketball for us. It happens. There's no conspiracy or sky falling. Some years it works out. Some it doesn't.

If we start losing top prospects that we really want in our own backyard with some consistency then I'd be more apt to worry.

We have Mercedes for 3 more seasons and there are TWO quality post players in 2017 that ARE in our backyard: KK and Dorie. Hopefully we will get one or both of them.

Well, we have gotten Russell, Reynolds and Nared and they're from about as far across the country as you can get. There were a lot of good posts this year and it is pretty disappointing and a major failure for Holly not to land at least one of them this year or the past three years for that matter. But, still it is not panic mode yet. If she misses on one (but we really need two) in the next class then it is panic time.

The same way a lot of poster get tired of the sky is fallin it is also getting tiresome hearing excuses for our recruiting failures. A failure is a failure no matter how many excuses we give it. No matter if we like it or not failures will have an impact. Just maybe we need to quit both, excuses and the sky is falling.

Tell us which players you feel the coaching staff missed out on? Which players were there no excuses for not getting signed from 2016? And why?

1.) I don't think we should have given up on Krystiline McCune (She really wanted to be a Lady Vol from what I heard but we pulled our offer when she struggled during this AAU season) At 6'4" you had someone who you could have come early in the summer and work with her to prepare her for the season and if she wasn't ready develop her into a Post, she couldn't be any worst than what Nia was when she arrived. We will see how well she performs at WVU and see if we made a mistake or not

I don't think Nared should or will be redshirted. We need her if we want to make a serious run.

I don't either the only person that should be reshirted (if she is willing to) imo is Nia Moore! Because we failed to get a Post having her sit a year and build up more bulk and be a back up for Russell another year could really help us (I think we can get by with Graves playing some 5 this year)

So how do you know that's the only reason we dropped her? There could've been grades and a number of other things included in that decision.

It is not our responsibility to ID players who the staff should have gotten. It's the staff's job to ID and sign prospects to provide depth.

I agree that redshirting Moore this year would be a good idea--but it would have to be done right now, no? We could certainly get by without her this year, and it would also give her one more year to put on some weight and get stronger.

I think we have until like the first 7 games? to make a decision. (since she got in last game), if she hadn't gotten in we could've reshirted her by not playing her and sending the paperwork in even if it was in January

From all reports and "insiders" within the forum our decision not to bring her here was strictly performanced based.

I wouldn't keep Moore another year if I was Holly. She has had more than enough time to improve her skills but just hasn't made the grade, imho... And I have been her biggest booster on this forum in the past...... :(
