I love coach Barnes and he's done a phenomenal job since day one. I was on the Barnes wagon since the day he was hired. When many said he was coming here to retire on easy street I was saying he was just what the program needed.Few things.
1. You don't have our record and headed to the S-16 with a group of 3 stars without excellent coaching. No one is perfect but Barnes has been great.
2. "Slowing the game down" refers to offense, not D. And there is no rule making you throw sloppy passes when working the clock.
The ticky tack fouls definitely played a larger factor in our defensive play.
Probably true of all fanbases but definitely in ours: The first thing we do when we hit the season lottery?, start complaining about the taxes. Sad.
Some are giving objective criticism. Some are doing more than that.I love coach Barnes and he's done a phenomenal job since day one. I was on the Barnes wagon since the day he was hired. When many said he was coming here to retire on easy street I was saying he was just what the program needed.
That being said i don't think there is or has ever been a coach that is above criticism from time to time. If Barnes changed one thing from what they were doing in the first half, then he was wrong. Changing things for the sole reason to change things is not a good thing.
Momentum is a huge in college basketball especially at tournament time. When you've got a big lead, the last thing you want to do is slow things down and risk losing that momentum. JMO
You're missing the point many are trying to make. When you change the speed at which you play you play more lackadaisical. You change momentum. If you are just milking clock, you let the other team rest. If you're just milking clock, you give the other team more chances to steal the ball. When you're dominating a team, you keep your foot on the peddle. Do you think Bruce told his team to slow down and milk the clock last night against Kansas? No, he kept doing what was working which was attack. Some are giving objective criticism. Some are doing more than that.
I don't believe they went on a run because of our tactic, I believe the run was coming and we tried to prepare because the staff knew also. Had we slowed down and not started passing the ball to them, guessing it would have worked well.
Had we not slowed down and still turned over the ball repeatedly and shot cold for several minutes, they have the opportunity for more shots/points.
But our entire discussion is based on *if's, so who knows.
