Not sure I can take losing to these guys two years in a row. We'll have to show up ready to play. Their website lists none of the 2019-2020 team as seniors, so I'm not sure how many players they are going to be losing
They should be really good. They’re losing 1 player but he wasn’t a major contributor and pick up a 4* PF. They lost a good player mid season to transfer. He only scored 4 pts against us. But maybe it was addition by subtraction because they played well without him

Lol
go ahead and let us know where you stand

So to be clear are you glad we are going on the road to play Wisconsin to start the
Year?

or should we have waited until 2021 for that and played some easier Match ups to open the year

it’s ok to say that you changed your mind. Really it is especially since your first take was dumb and short sighted about this group of talented players we have on this team.

A better question is "why are you obsessed with my opinion"? Too bad that you're triggerred and think that my first take was dumb and short sighted. Preferring that the young players ease into the schedule while building up, rather than tearing down, their confidence was my take and I've never walked it back despite your spinning of my words with your DHed trolling. I'd also rather not give every opponent a thorough scouting report right out of the gate. Vescovi's weaknesses were exposed after a couple of games.

The freshmen may not be playing big minutes that early anyway. If UW is loaded with a bunch of big, slow corn-fed crackers like they often are then it could be an opportunity to steal one and get off to a good start. So I'm not worrying either way. I don't know if Wisconsin has lost anybody from their B10 champion team. I don't know if UW or the B10 is even going to be any good. I'm disappointed that there wasn't a 2020 NCAAT because I would have loved to have seen the B10 put in 10 or more teams and then crash and burn in the first weekend. The conference might could have been overrated. But they sure looked pretty in some of their pre-conference games and were loved by the media throughout the rest of the season.

I don't want more than 2 pre-conference losses. I've posted that multiple times. I don't want to see TN have to pull off a 13-5 in the SEC to stay off of the bubble. Go 7-6 in the first part and that's where they could be. Ideally they can build up momentum throughout the year and the young players noticeably improve. ORN, Uros, and Vescovi all played better earlier in the season.

Are you one of the posters that whines about Barnes wearing out his teams and not having them peaking too early and flaming out at the end of the season? I want to set up as high of a seeding as possible. I want to get to the 2nd weekend in the 2021 NCAAT. That would be good to set up a 2022 EE or FF run.

Now try to stay quiet if you can't add something of substance to the board.

It's not released yet, but the Basilio blog today lists some matchups:

@ Wisconsin is season opener on Wednesday November 11.

Tournament in Charleston weekend before Thanksgiving: Houston, FSU, Seton Hall, VCU, Ok State, Penn State, College of Charleston, TN (3 opponents - games on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday)

A home game with George Washington in Knoxville in early December.

Cincinnati at home and Memphis in Nashville in mid December.

Home game in Big 12 Challenge in late January against one of Kansas/TX Tech/West Virginia who are all likely preseason top 15. The word on the street is that Tennessee probably will play Kansas in Knoxville.

hope it will be the Selfies. The last meeting with Jayhawks was nearly the last straw for what's left of my noggin.

I don’t have to spin anything.
You say your opinion perfectly here where you say you are worried about this teams confidence.

I think if anything this team will need to take some early losses to get their attention. Losses will be good For the future imo

take a loss at wisconsin; only one more before january

Wisconsin, Gonzaga and Kansas could all be top 10 teams. Potentially top 5

I feel that it's almost a guarantee that Wisconsin will be ranked in the Top 15 for our season opener, and there's a very strong chance that both Houston and Florida State will be Top 10 teams (along with Tennessee, if we can win in Madison) at the Charleston Classic the following weekend.

If fans are allowed to be in attendance this upcoming season, my November/December/January is going to be absolutely loaded with huge matchups.

I'm more concerned that We have a season.
I still think Corona could delay or cancel games

If this team is on the bubble next year is a failure.

tifwiw but I was told by a D1 current coach that it’s all or nothing. If football isn’t played nothing will be. The reason has something to do with insurance. The example I got was when the NCAA canceled the NCAA tourney last year they immediately canceled the college baseball World Series because they couldn’t collect $ if a sport was played after basketball.
anyway for similar reasons if football isn’t played nothing will he due to the NCAA needing the insurance to be paid

Well, that's depressing

Yup. If we can go 2-1 in these games then we will be sitting pretty heading into SEC play. I think we get Kansas at home but the other two are toss ups. Really hope we avenge that ugly Wisconsin game.

I had heard similarly from a few NCAA coaches but I've also heard they're working to rectify the insurance issue so other sports could be played if necessary. Not sure if you can rectify insurance issues with a billion dollar industry in a few months but they're trying it seems.

Looks like I am not the only one that thinks it’s ridiculous to think our returning roster isn’t ready for prime time tough scheduling from the start. Me thinks this team can handle the pressure!

Bossi (@Eric Bossi ): It’s actually the tandem of Tennessee-bound five-stars
Jaden Springer and
Keon Johnson. Don’t get me wrong, there will be high expectations for Springer (a high scoring, physical two) and Johnson (an electric athlete) during their first year in Knoxville. However, Rick Barnes and the Vols should return enough experienced players and have enough guys around them to allow Springer and Johnson to ease into things. The flip side is that if they are as good as hoped upon arrival, then Tennessee is going to make a serious run at an SEC title and perhaps even a Final Four.”[/QUOTE]

Is there any precedent for Big 12/SEC Challenge opponents squaring off two years in a row? I’d enjoy playing Kansas, but wonder if it’s not more likely we’d be matched up against Texas/Oklahoma/TTU.

So how much of the various non conference games will need air travel for one team or another? Even if the season goes ahead, with cuts to the airlines coming, this could make it difficult to travel. While there will likely be plenty of high profile matchups, you might see one or two fewer matchups against top level teams, and one or two more games against the likes of Belmont or ETSU or someone.

Might not be exciting, and a possible loss would be bad. OTOH, logistically, it's easier to travel by bus or car to and from in the same day. A close game would also eliminate the need for one or more teams to stay in a hotel also.

I think that you raise an interesting point about the potential of fewer high-profile OOC games. I feel that the tournaments/major neutral site matchups are "safe" given they're primarily about the player experience/program exposure and aren't exactly dependent on fan attendance for teams (especially in the case of tropical tournaments), but is Wisconsin going to be "cool" with Tennessee playing to an empty Kohl Center if push came to shove? I have a feeling that a lot of home-and-home series might be put on hiatus given the general "unfairness" of having one school disadvantaged without their home fans/ticket revenue.

I don't envision flights being a problem as I guarantee airlines would jump at the opportunity to charter flights for schools to bump their revenue, but I think it's a distinct possibility that we could end up playing a few more local teams in lieu of Wisconsin and Cincinnati.
