Collins at GT as well? Has only one season under his belt.
Geoff Collins seat is ice cold right now and probably will be for the next 3 seasons. I think he'll have GT going to a bowl game either this season or in 2021 with the great recruiting that him and his coaching staff have been doing.

Geoff Collins the official spokesman for the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. You guys thought Butch could market. Good grief. That guy changed shirts and hats during every commercial break when he did an hour long interview with Mark Packer and Wes Durham. That’s not an exaggeration. I hope he can coach and maybe hurt UGA somehow .

Geoff Collins is the kind of head football coach Georgia Tech needs. He'll have them mentioned often in the press because of his ability to market, his personality and his and his coaching staff's recruiting skills the level of which Georgia Tech hasn't seen since the days of Bobby Dodd. I think he'll have GT bowling with a 6-6 record this season and will do better in 2021.

Thing is...Tech needs a coach like that (kind of). They aren't a historically dominant program with an established brand. Tennessee doesn't/didn't need one like that.

Coaches Hot Seat 2020
Surprised Helton still has a job.
Yes on Herman. Texas won't suffer another 7-5 or 8-4 season
Sumlin more or less just got there. I think he's safe
I think the Huskers are figuring out how much they really do miss Bo Pelini
Chip Kelly should be wrecking that conference with the talent at his disposal. Same goes for Helton.
Houston is going to have to make good on their "10 wins is the basement" comments if Holgerson has another bad year
Rice is an academic school, athletics are a side note
Tulsa is in a tough spot when recruiting against both Oklahoma schools and other big conferences raiding our in state talent
Patterson is safe I think. He's compiled a good record with them and I doubt they want to start over
North Texas is going to continue to suck regardless of a coach they get
David Shaw isn't leaving Stanford unless David Shaw wants to leave Stanford
Les Miles? LOL! That's the best Kansas is ever going to get
Spavital is on his 2nd season there. They aren't going to fire him that quick.

Will Muschamp will be canned when South Carolina finishes 4-8.

I’m more concerned about Muschamp when he gets fired than him as head coach at USCjr. He could be a real pain when he lands somewhere as D coordinator in conference like a UGA where his son “plays” or Bama, but some have suggested Bama seems unlikely.

I think he will be hired in January by Nick Satan to once again be DC at Alabama:rolleyes:

He’s a lock for either spot should he choose to take it. Charlie being at Bama most likely means Chump to UGA in that instance

I always thought North Texas was one of those programs that "should be" better than they are, relatively speaking of course. They have never been a consistently strong team in their conference, whether it be Sun Belt or Conference USA. They are in a great recruiting area and have a relatively new stadium (built in 2011) that I imagine is nicer than most of their conference competition. It seems like they should be one of the strongest teams in their conference every year.

They have obvious recruiting advantages over everybody in their division except perhaps Louisiana Tech and UAB. Rice and UTSA have great recruiting location too, but athletics are a side note at Rice as you described and UTSA's program has only existed since 2011 and has very little brand. UAB has a great story, but you also have to play (for the time being) in that hellhole that is Legion Field.

At just about any other school, Lovie Smith would have been fired after the 2018 season with a three-year record of 9-27 at the U of I. He did go 6-7 for the Illini last season with a bowl game loss to Cal. Knowing how things work in Champaign, they're probably working on a statue for him as we speak. 🙄

I think he has a lot of clout there simply because he was the Bears HC for many years. They probably think that they are really lucky to have a guy who comes from that pedigree.

Sadly, they compete in recruiting against every Power 5 school in Texas along with every other Division 1 school in Texas along with every other Division 1 school in the US raiding Texas for talent. But Littrell just put together a couple of good recruiting classes, by CUSA standards at least, with over 40 3 star athletes which isn't shabby for that level.

I agree he should be "better" than they are but he's not done terribly bad considering what he inherited.

Littrell has done pretty well, agreed. I guess I was speaking more about the run they went on before him. Todd Dodge went 3-23 in conference play from 2007-10 and
Dan McCarney went 15-19 from 2011-15. Their last consistent run of play in their conference was in the early 2000s (2001-04)...they won 4 Sun Belt titles a row but none since then. I suppose I shouldn't have said they "never" have been consistently strong in their conference, but it has been a long time.

Do they really compete a lot against P5 schools in Texas for talent? I figured they'd focus on guys who weren't getting a lot of looks from the Big 12 schools, at least the good Big 12 schools. I could see them competing against Kansas and K-State for recruits I guess. If Littrell's recruiting a bunch of 3-stars, that should bode well for them.

All schools compete against each other in Texas along with many from the outside. I think every Division 1 school in Texas at least offers the higher rated in state talent just as a matter of course. It costs a G5 team nothing to offer a 4 or 5 star athlete a scholarship and if they actually get one of them they win in the end.

No matter what, there are only so many 4 star athletes to go around and most of P5 teams fill the ranks with 3 star recruits after they get done chasing the higher talent. Just as a way of thinking, one P5 coach's 3 star prospect that fills a roster spot is another P5 coach's diamond in the rough. Some P5 coaches have made a career out of training up 3 star recruits. Mullet Gundy is a good example of that.

I agree UNT should be on the up swing with pulling in two good recruiting classes for a G5 school.
