2020 SEC Tournament

SC and MSST close with really easy games unfortunately, so looks like 7th is about best case...a loss Saturday and we are likely 8/9.
There’s no scenario where we’d fall to a 9 seed. An 8 seed would happen if we lose and TAMU wins at least one of their remaining 2 games

Of course rooting against Florida is a double edged sword. If they win their last 2 then they would count as a Q1 win for us. And I’m ok w a 7 seed in the SECT anyway. So there are pros and cons either way. There are none for TAMU. Don’t want them to bump us to the 8 seed.

I take it they use head to head record to figure out the 4 seed in the event of a five way tie at 10-8 (FL, MSU, USCe, TN, A&M)?

I think that's how it is determined. All common games among the teams that tie are pooled together and they're ranked and then head-to-head for ties within those rankings.

For 2-way ties, if the head-to-head is 2 games and they've split, the next tie breaker is which of the two has beaten the higher seeded opponent.

Yea, not like we can get to a 4, and I would rather be a 6 or 7 than a 5.
I almost wonder if being a 5 seed would require us to beat UK to get in the field. Wins over Ole Miss and Miss St not being good enough. Whereas a win over Auburn or LSU in the SECT as a 6/7 seed would seal it.

Yea I brought up that point earlier

We need to beat Auburn twice or Kentucky again to get in with 3 more wins imo

If not we need to get to the finals.

Auburn twice or Auburn and LSU.
If we’re a 6 seed it would likely mean Auburn is the 3 seed. So they’d get us in back to back games. Not ideal. As a 7 seed (w regular season win over Auburn) then we’d be facing LSU as the 2. If we lose and are the 7, then we’d get a rematch with Auburn which of course is very difficult for a team to beat you 3 times in a season. 7 seems like an ideal seed for us to play our way into the ncaat without having to beat UK again .

The LSU path is obviously better but not sure that’s a win that moves the needle

I disagree. They’re only separated by 2 spots in the NET rankings.
I respect that but I am just not sure the virtually same NET rankings is the same as the buzz a win over Auburn would give the talking heads. I guess it boils down to how much “political” pressure the talking heads can influence the committee

Isn’t this assuming we just beat them in the regular season finale?

Yea which will have most everyone talking about us being on the bubble but not being in.

I am just saying is there any real “pressure”
Put on the committee to hear the talking heads proclaim a team just punched their ticket??

I am not sure it really does but imo a second win vs Auburn or Kentucky would get that response from the talking heads. Not sure an LSU win would do that

Now that the dust has settled from the midweek games, does anyone know what needs to happen for best seed for us on Saturday. For example, where would we sort out on a 3 way tie with Mississippi state and texas A&M for the 6th seed? What about a 4 way tie for the 6th seed with Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and South Carolina? Trying to figure out what to root for on Saturday. Obviously easiest route to a 7 is a win and an A&M loss.

Well...TAMU and MSU beat us this year. So obviously they hold the tie breaker. Then we split the series with SCjr .

Crap. A&M really needs to lose to Arkansas (and we need to beat Auburn)

We will either be the 7 seed or the 8 seed. Unfortunately, tiebreakers are not our friend:

We finish 4th in a 4-team tiebreaker between Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mississippi St, and us
We finish 3rd in a 3-team tiebreaker between Texas A&M, South Carolina, and us OR Texas A&M, Mississippi St, and us
We lose the head to head tiebreaker to Texas A&M
We lose the head to head tiebreaker to Mississippi St
We lose the head to head tiebreaker to South Carolina (they are 1-0 vs Kentucky; we are 1-1)
The only tiebreaker we win is if we are in a 2-team tiebreaker with Alabama, and that would be to determine who wears the white jerseys in the 8-9 game

We finish as the 8 seed unless we win AND Texas A&M loses. Every other scenario out there has us in the 8-9 game on the Kentucky side of the bracket
