2021 College World Series Game Discussion Thread: Bracket 1 and Bracket 2 (excluding Tennessee)

Btw....too busy at work today, but someone please run the numbers on how historically bad Candy was. If you take away inning 1, didn't they score like 3 runs in 2.9 games thereafter? Also, they only had 3 hits in the 7-run inning, but didn't they have something like less than 10 hits in 3 full games? That would put them somewhere around .100 for the finals.

.179 for the entire CWS and .116 for the finals (10-86 AB)

Historically bad at the plate for Vandy. Baxter (hitting coach) needs to be replaced ASAP. State had a clear advantage with the seniors at the top of the lineup. Such good leadership.

Corbin must feel horrific that he wasted two Top 10 picks on the mound with terrible defense and hitting approaches. Lemonis is getting his bag for sure.

You could feel the moment Rocker threw the ball away instead of the inning-ending double play, it was over. If I were Corbin, I would have open competition for every spot come the fall. Even their SEC freshman of the year.

Also of note, I don't think MSU will be able to come close next year. Much of their success revolved around Rowdey and Tanner. They will be an average team unless someone explodes or a super-freshman/JUCO guy comes in.

The team was running on fumes for the past month. They simply didn’t have the depth to overcome injuries to key hitters. They had no one you had to pitch around except Bradfield, and that ain’t gonna cut it at the highest level.

They were lucky to make it as far as they did. Even Corbin said as much in the post game.

This was a team that led the SEC in hitting going into the CWS finals and even after the abysmal performance in the finals finished the season ranked in the SEC accordingly:

Avg. 2nd
Runs 5th
RBI’s 5th
RPG 5th
Doubles 2nd
Slugging 3rd
Hits 3rd
Triples 1st
HR 4th
OB % 4th
Total Bases 2nd

Don’t act like they were some rag tag bunch who couldn’t hit. The last 4 recruiting classes on campus were ranked #1 in the country.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. They will have new seniors next year.

I think you should lead a "FIRE CORBIN NOW!" movement. I'll help.

Open compettion for every spot should always happen on a well-coached team. So, what does one muffed play at second base have to do with that?

12 errors over 7 WS games should warrant that. Vandy's SS was atrocious. Corbin better hope he convinces Lawler (sp) to get to campus.

MSU won their pod and the natty on timely hitting and 0 errors throughout. They didn't have great pitching wire-to-wire.

Edit: 13! errors.

It is rare to have two hitters as talented and productive as Tanner and Rowdey this year. Tanner finished the year at .383/.456/621. Rowdey did .323/.417/.546. That is as good as it gets at the top of the order. Also, from the leadership perspective, it is rare to have two four-year starters in this age. It is unquantifiable but is a difference-maker for sure.

Defense was bad but you can't just blame last night on defense. You didn't score any runs.

He already blamed the hitting coach for the offensive woes last night…haven’t heard anything about the Rocker E to get things started though…but hey, Corbin said everything that needed to be said post game.

GBO!!!

The fact that Vandy fell apart in every facet of the game last night with a NC on the line made their loss extra sweet.
To see your enemies driven before you and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Wait....does Vandy even have women?
